Babalola, ex-SDP deputy national chairman, murdered
By Adeolu Adeyemo
Thursday, October 23, 2008
Unidentified gunmen on Tuesday night invaded the Idi-Ape, Ibadan, Oyo State residence of the former Deputy National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Chief Augustus Babalola and shot him dead.

The circumstances surrounding the murder could not be ascertained as of the time of filing this report, but eyewitnesses told the Nigerian Tribune that Babalola was was shot in the heart at the gate of his house while returning from church.

Sources said the politician was rushed to a nearby hospital before he gave up the ghost. It was gathered that there was a heavy traffic jam and restriction of vehicular and human movements in the area as people around scampered for safety, while operation lasted only a few minutes.

“Infact, the gunmen, who dressed in good attires, came out of a very fine vehicle and nobody could suspect that they could be involved in such an unlawful act until they demonstrated it,” an eyewitness said.

Before he was killed, the gunmen reportedly demanded for the key of his vehicle which he gave to them and later shot him on the chest and made away with the vehicle which they later abandoned in a place in the city that day.

Speaking on the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Miss Bisi Okuwobi, confirmed the incident and described it as unfortunate. She said the police would get to the root of the matter as thorough investigation would be conducted.

Redsun, You don't know this person and from your comment you don't sound intelligent enough to be objective.

Ademola Augustus Babalola was an ethical upstanding proud to be Nigerian. Ask anyone who knew him personally. It is unfortunate that our country is the way it is but it is my prayer for the country that God raises more people like him that will help us in the long run repair our country. Instead of sitting your butt outside the country and making un-informed comments, why don't you come back to Nigeria and help rebuild.

@REDSUN
Guy, this is the coldest thing I've read in this house. No matter what he did, he didn't deserve to be murdered and I do not think you'll find this statement funny if another person write it about your father or relation. We are all human beings with soul and spirit that hurts when a loved one dies. I suggest you erase that comment before somebody close to him reads it, please. It serves no purpose and is very unnecessary.
Re: Babalola, Ex-sdp Deputy National Chairman, Murdered by 9ja4va: 5:39pm On Oct 24, 2008
I think redsun should get his fact right b4 making any silly unsearchable comment. Chief A.A. Babalola was a positively prominent politician in this country in the time of MKO, and his party won the most voted for and transparent elections this country has ever had. May the Lord 4give u, you personally require revolution to understand that our country needs extremely honest leaders like him to take us to our promised Land. May the gentle and peaceful soul of Chief Augustus Ademola Babalola rest in perfect peace Amen.

@ 9ja4va,always hoping (promised land)moses, yam head.Living in fantasies as if they have two lives. The evil that men do lives after them,if your relative is bad,of course you will bear the brunts of his atrocities.

His is talking about free and fair election in nigeria, privates head, with all those murders, cheap tokens to idiots like you for votes and outright rigging.

The blind of course can't see,why bother with you, probably a relative of the sadist too.It is like crying for the execution of a serial killer, even a good mama wont bother to cry.
Re: Babalola, Ex-sdp Deputy National Chairman, Murdered by redsun(m): 11:32am On Oct 26, 2008
If this guy was good, may his legacies live on,but if he was just another nigerian politician,so shall it be.The term nigeian politician is synonymous with corruption and stealing, not even the intellectuals among them are exempted, judging from the legacies they leave behind. But he could be exceptional, good, then i am wrong about him and i am always on the good side.

He could be like the Kutis ,shoyinka, solari and co which is very rare in nigeria and they are not politicians.
Re: Babalola, Ex-sdp Deputy National Chairman, Murdered by 9ja4va: 8:12pm On Oct 27, 2008
You are indeed very foolish redsun and your understanding and intellect socks. If you are wise and on the "good side" you should have thought deeply before making your sad and idiotic comments initially. I can assure you and many sick Nigerians like you, home and away, by the special grace of this God who owns heaven and earth, this country our promised land will def. be restored and the likes of Ademola Augustus Babalola, Uncle Bola Ige and many others who died for the truth will not be in vain. We def. do not need FOOLS like you as leaders nor followers in the new Nigeria, it's better you stay in the UK and carry on living on the sweat of those that sacrificed their lives more than 200yrs ago for Great Britain, thats all you want living on others sweat and negatively criticizing without making any efforts to be a part of change.
Ode in 2008 is definitely an Ode for life!

All you privates heads will never get it,i hate wasting time with you murderfuckers, always very illusive.

The death of a typical nigerian politician is a blessing to the country,a good riddance, they cause great harm to the country than good and i am still not changing my views about him until i get to know him.If he was actually was a good man, what are his legacies?what will he be remembered  for that he did for the people or was it just enriching himself and his family?Oga.
Re: Babalola, Ex-sdp Deputy National Chairman, Murdered by shotster50(m): 12:21am On Oct 28, 2008
@ Redsun, I totally understand your grouse with Nigerian Politicians. Having said that, don't you think you jumped the gun too quickly by judging the man when you have admittedly said you do not know him??
Re: Babalola, Ex-sdp Deputy National Chairman, Murdered by redsun(m): 12:41am On Oct 28, 2008
I wish them all dead,i swear, none seems to be good, corruption and stealing comes natural to them, they think it is their right. It is like a norm,in all cadres of the society.

Think of all the billions of dollars made from oil since american madness started. What did they do with the money?nigeria is still a shamble.Their mentality is unimaginable,my father always use to call them animals,i thought he was crazy for not joining them in the galore of looting,i can now see what he saw,my father lived europe when africa was really in the dark, imagine how dark it could have been in the fifties and sixthies with the way it is now.

Do you think you will do any better if you were in their shoes?
Re: Babalola, Ex-sdp Deputy National Chairman, Murdered by redsun(m): 8:55am On Oct 28, 2008
Why not?doing good is an obligation, especially as a public servant. The only place for saboteurs is the jail or gallows.

China is a force to reckon with today because they have to put measures in place for it to be possible, discipline.

It is never too early for us to show our humanity,we always wave it off by the same lame excuse of being learners, newcomers and africans,(god's time is the best)our history seems to have gone with the wind and presently the only history we have is misery,a sore in the eyes of the world, words used by tony blair, the former british prime minister referring to africa, talking about able people,

Re: Babalola, Ex-sdp Deputy National Chairman, Murdered by tayoe: 10:48am On Nov 23, 2008
Redsun, who made you a judge?

You judge people like Awolowo and Zik. You may not be aware that several people were able to get formal education only because of some of the policies of Awolowo.

I am informed that the late politician was actively involved in the helps. Read:", had a great love for children and prior to his death, he was heavily burdened with starting a foundation that provides sponsorship to Nigerian children between the ages of 0 and 5 who have avoidable and/or curable ailments owing to lack of funds for proper medical care or equipment".

You are really a foolish man, quoting scriptures which you don't know. I really want to know what you have done for Nigeria, apart from wishing politicians ill?

@redsun

It's all right to be angry at politicians. Oblivious, ignorant, vapid men, in the main. One should be angry. But it would be better if you weren't angry at all, but direct your passion towards processes and systems that would lift them up and place them aside, putting better men in their place.

But one shouldn't confuse anger with simple decency and humanity. You don't know this man. You cannot produce a list of the evils he had done to deserve such a fate. All you know is that he's a politician. His death advances no cause and furnishes no gain. You self-righteously judge him, you cheapen what must be a horrendous and traumatic episode to his family, you celebrate his passing.

Sure you're angry at politicians and the state of the country. Aren't we all?
But your words and attitude towards someone who was murdered is very, very wrong, and very cheap.
Do not allow unreasoning, unproductive anger to strip you of everything that makes a human being decent.

Instintively, the death of a politician in nigeria come across to me as a blessing, judging from the havocs they cause in the country.

But like i said before,if i am wrong about him,let posterity take its cause.Hearing about people like Fashola gives one the impression that there could be some good eggs among the numerous rotten eggs.

A good person has nothing to fear, not even physical attacks.

This is a very sad news. A friend just told me about it this evening knowing that the man's daughter was my friend during our university days in unibadan.

I had the previledge of interracting with this great man of interlect and i can tell anyone who cares to listen that he was a very gentle, peace loving man. He was also a very brilliant man too ( Had a first class in economics from a uni in england).
He never looked down on anyone and was well loved by all that knew him.

He was the first to congratulate me after my tertiary education in 1995 and gave me some sound advices that i still use till today.

I am sure he has gone to the bossom of his creator, it is left for us that are alive to live RIGHT!

May GOD grant him eternal rest!! AMEN.

No amount of money can buy the freedom of goodness and knowledge and no amount of money can wash away the scourge of evil and ignorance.

You can destroy a good person physically but the positive spirit lives on.Anybody killed in the cause of goodness dies a martyr and in some ways has overcome death, just like the story of christ,it is a story of sacrifice, but our people only see the divine part of it(hail mary)forgetting that it is just a story of one dying for good tidings that he or she believe in,which should be applicable to all reasonable human beings
