As a Cop, dad adviced me never to lay my hands on anybody no matter the magnitude of the offence committed that the law has it ways of dealing with the culprits. But it aint easy cos some suspects can be so stuborn and annoying.

My dad crying said to me when I was to travel outside the country saying I've never seen you fight or look for trouble don't start it now. Anytime I think about it, it makes me want to cry.

HonourablePomk: The one thats still soo fresh was when my dad went to register me for jamb special center we met a guy there and i chose UI he was telling my dad how the school was soo tough even their screening process and i was an average student then whereby i just graduated from secondary school i was an average there always 60smtin%...My dad said a word to the guy "HE IS A YOUNG BOY HE CAN READ" for the first week of january this year i was thinking about those words and i took up the challenge from then everyday i read from 12pm-6pm glory to God i passed jamb with 220 without the expo i payed for, then i changed my choice school to Uniben"Po.Sci"...I was a bit pessimistic about it because of d words i do hear about the school but 5days to the exam i read like never before and i passed with a score of 66/90 just recently i checked my admission status on jamb website i have been admitted for the course...I'm happy i made my Parents,Siblings proud of me "ALWAYS LISTEN TO ADVICE FROM PARENTS"...Tag:Neldrizzy,Benromeo39,Chizzy94,Godwin10,Naijaboiy,Jjstanley.....

My dad is kind'a like that. Anytime he takes us to school (boarding), I'm talking from primary school, he would say, this is your inheritance that I'm giving you, if you become useful (wulo), you would be useful to yourself.
He would tell me and my siblings, that he's working for himself, so that when he grows older, or if he's ever in need of money, he would convert his assets to cash.
We all grew up not looking up to our parents riches, and they (my parents) are very wealthy.
MORAL OF THE TALKS: It made us all very hardworking and focused, though we were very very comfortable, and got all we ever asked for.

mindworx: Me and my dad, we are not close. The first day i entered University, he took me there. Immediately i came down out of the car, he called me and said:
'Femi, In the school, you will find the library, and in the same school, you will see clubs. You are the architect of your life. I have paid you my dues. All the best.'
Consciously or not, that is what fueled me through.

My mum once called my brother and I after SSCE, and read Deut 28 line by line to the last verse, and then advised us, and we prayed. It was a sobering experience.

"Ti Baba mi ba ranmi ni ile iwe ni, emi naa ko ni wa ni ibi ti mo wa loni yii, koju mo eko ohun ti ko to si ma seku" meaning " assuming my own dad did send me to school, I wouldn't be where I am today- I would be on higher pedestal. Things will soon be all right" This is the word that always come out of my dad mouth and whenever he finishes the whole story one would have turn a good boy without any advice.

I've got a friend, we were in Secondary School when he lost his mom, being the only son she really did a lot to make him happy. He told me then that one phrase his mom used after shouting his name to call his attention especially when he is "busy" with his video games was "shey I'm calling you now and you're there playing your video game, okay o. Carry on." and those were the first set of words that got to him, when she passed on. He regretted not giving her enough of his time and attention, back then he told me "Alex, if my mom was alive now and called my name once I will answer and run to her a thousand times."

He asked me to pay attention to mine. I'm asking you to pay attention to yours.

Mum unlike Dad proffered a lot of counsels as I journey through life. But dad's rare advice stick to my mind - If you refuse to work hard (face your studies severely) now, you will work really hard later in life. And mum's usual words to me is "Deolu se jeje oo, Ranti omo eni ti iwo nse ooo".
