Help! My Son Is A Fussy Eater! by emmachick(f): 7:35pm On Sep 11, 2014
Hi people,

I have a 15 month old toddler that's always fussy with food. He has always been fussy right from when I started him on solids.

Everytime I want to feed him is always hard work. I will be following him round the house and hold his mouth before he will take it. I normally do that for 1hour or more during each meal. I have tried different types of food but no he wants to be chased around the house before he takes it.

I was advised by my health visitor not to chase him, that he's got control over me instead of me being in control cry. She said when he is hungry he will eat the food. I tried that for 1 day but i cldnt stand it. Reason being that if i feed him 9am in the morning, he wont want to eat until around 6 hours or more, now how can i watch him starve like that?

Is there any other method or ways I can get him to eat?

Thanks for all the advice in advance kiss

My son is no more on bossom milk and he doesn't take bottle anymore. Although I still prepare his cereals with baby formula.

My baby won't even take normal food like amala or pounded yam, I will have to blend the pounded yam into a puree like mashed potato before he can eat it

Maybe you should see a Pediatrician (Doctor) maybe they will advise u on the type of drugs to give him that will help boast his appetite

Give him multivitamin.
Then use incentives to lure him to eat. Like making what he likes most a prize if he eats and denying access to them when he won't eat.
Force him to eat, as it's his right to be fed as a baby and not given choice of empty stomach when he doesnt want cause he doesnt want

I think the problem is the cereals you're still giving him. I believe if you concentrate on giving him only normal food he will adjust, he is still kind off used to mashed foods/milk/cereals. To him food is anything that's still semisolid.

Sometimes you've got to force him, he might not know how good normal food tastes until he tries it

Not all babies take solid, my son will be 2 in another mnth, since 6mnths I have bn forcing him to take swallow, the young man will jst lock up and cry, bt he eats other meals except swallow, even plantain sef, I have to force him

Jst take ur time to study him, give him spag with carrot, mashed potato, fish, egg, mashed beans.
I am sure he will like this for a start.

I've been to d Doctor and I was told that baby goes throught different phase that he will soon change. The only medicine I was asked to be giving him is Abidec which I have been doing for several months.

How can I use incentives on a toddler that is 15 months....i've tried that, he just looks at me as if i'm high on something angry. he doesnt understand that yet cheesy grin

I give him normal food like rice, scrambled egg, toast, beans etc he eats them but just tiny bit. He doesnt eat them to fill him up.

I don't think anything is wrong in the cereals I give him coz he eats different types like, weetabix, golden morn, aptamil cereals etc.

Not that he wont eat the food, he just enjoy me chasing him round the house.

For example one day I gave him one spoon of food, he rejected it and walked away, while he was walking he was checking behind him if I will follow him as usual of which I didnt. undecided

He is so much used to me chasing him that he now takes the mick out of me...my issue now is how can I break him of that silly habit?

It can be frustrating watching your kid refuse food.

My dear, i've tried different types of food o, i'm not even sure wot other food to try him on, he just doesnt have any favourite food. grin. I've tried all the food you listed up there, all the people that I know donkt even know what to do to him grin. Guess I have to keep on doing what I am doing by chasing him. Op, no vex oh.

Try giving him all sort of food until you see the one he likes eating. Also when ever you eat, feed him off the one on your hands. Let him eat with you. Even though he will end up pouring the food everywhere. Gradually he will start eating himself .

Pls, don't force him. Maybe distract him by playing music children musical video

if this is the case, then.......
Place him on your laps when feeding him, tell him to sit on your laps, then feed him, if he dares jump down while eating, leave him and stop chasing him around the house, if you stop chasing him arund for like 2-3 days, he will get your message and adjust, i tell you........talking from experience.
Secondly, eat together, serve your food and his together, and jokingly insists that you eat simultaneously by putting food in your mouth at the same time, he will enjoy the fun while it last.
Raising toddlers require much patience.

Same thing my sister is going through with her daughter. She keeps chasing her around just to feed her. When the food is put in her mouth, she either eats it or spits it out. I have told her severally to feed the child when she is hungry and demands for food.

@op,don't force your son to eat. Feed him only when he demands for food.
Re: Help! My Son Is A Fussy Eater! by Nobody: 9:58am On Sep 12, 2014
Same with my son,15months. He's always wanting to be chased around and fed especially if it's something he has to try to chew eg pasta or rice. At a point I couldn't take it anymore so I brought out his high chair, all his toys and also an Ipad.
I bought busy beavers and little baby bu m apps off the iTunes Store. So while I'm feeding him,I sing along and dance like an idiot. It keeps him entertained and he opens his mouth when he's distracted. Then I clap and praise him for eating that spoon..

For his food,I realised that he eats more when the food is mashed..so I use a stick blender for everything.avocado(no salt),mashed bananas with weetabix, fromage frais, laughing cow cheese, custard(lidl or ambrosia),mashed strawberries(lidl strawberries are fantastic),cook potatoes till soft and mash with a bit of milk especially sweet potatoes, basmati rice in coconut milk, steamed broccoli, cooked salmon fillet too, breadsticks and cheese dip..
Have I mentioned that he likes custard poured on almost everything and hates milk with a passion? If he's not in daycare,I try to feed him 4-5 hours apart with small snacks in between(healthy ones)

Try and make his highchair a place he wants to be in,play with him when he's in there, make him get used to it and not see it as a prison.

If I have anyother thoughts will come back.

Sorry for the stress o!

Having a fussy eater can be really frustrating. My 20 months old is just like yours.I've ceased to worry much in as much as he is healthy,I know someday we will get over it.Just keep trying with different food not just cereal or baby foods. At least, there is something definitely, he loves even if he doesn't eat much.My Baby is choosy,I've tried several foods. There is a particular food he will like at a time, after a while,he won't want to eat it anymore. We'll try several others,he picks one,we continue with that one until he's done with it then we move on.Hard work, but I know someday he will out grow it.keep trying.
