Hardly..

You can't come up with such? Here in the SS, the Efik/Ibibio is arguably the largest tribe, you see them everywhere..Ijaws are just scattered around the swamps of Rivers, Delta and that Huge Swamp called Bayelsa.

Use your heat maps in doing your homework.

You are wrong too. In the south south, the Igbo are the number one group. Forget the propaganda. Igbo is the only tribe native to all the Niger delta states and are dominant in Rivers and Delta states. Starting from Igbanke, Inyele, Ekpon in Edo state to the nine Anioma Local government areas in Delta to Ndoni, Ahoada, Ogba and Ikwerre people in Rivers, the Igbo predominate. I am a Niger Delta Igbo and proud of it!

The Efik/Ibibio/Anang/oron may be next before the Ijaws who have some how succeeded in making people think the Niger Delta is synonymous with Ijaw.

The dominant language in Opobo and parts of Bonny is Igbo not Ijaw. When a conference to form the Union Igbo was held, Bonny people were invited but Asaba people were not. Bonny Igbo dialect is part of the Union Igbo. Andoni does have a few Igbo words just like Urhobo/Isoko.

All the southern tribes are kind of related. Even Okrika and Kalabari borrowed a lot of Igbo words.

True, all southern tribes are related..the more reason for some similar words

Who gives a dead rat about the stupid articles you read? The fact on ground remains that the Andoni is a distinct group, with a language close to what is obtainable in Akwa ibom, with few Igbo words and little or no Ijaw words. Andonis are no Ijaws. *grins*

On the Opobo issue, there are "hundreds" of thread about that here, look for one of them, and knock yourself out.
Thanks.

what fact?? While I've never heard Andoni language, You the only person saying this here, why should I take your word for it?

Bille are distinct from Kalabari. No nid 4 d disagreement, unity is needed!

yeah unity is what we stand for but they should not take Bille for a ride because of its size when compared to Kalabari. Cheers bro!!!

benson81: Pardon me.that's a very important omission Bille and Bukuma."well the Bille clan are anothe eastern Ijaw people in Rivers State, Nigeria. The small clan is sometimes classified as a Kalabari clan but are unique clan on their own.The tribal seat is the town of Bille"
Good job bro but the clan is no longer small as prescribed in the early 90s(20th century) of some historical books or otherwise.

tonte: obonoma? are you really sure u know where u are even talking about? I'm from abonema, and it's on the same island as Obonoma, we speak entirely the same thing, and we are in the same local govt, and belong to the same clan/sect/family...and we have nothing to do with your brand of Degema that u speak of, I don't know the Usokun and Atala people at all as this is even my first time of hearing about them so I can't speak on them...Degema is entirely Kalabari...and as all Kalabari's we never agree/admit that we are Ijaw the same way Ikewerre people never admit/agree that they are Ibo...but We all belong to the Ijaw Nation

If you don't know of the Atala Degema people, the owners of Degema town, and their brothers the Usokun-Degema, then you are either not from Degema LGA,or you are,but hardly visit home.

Obonoma aka Ekomburu were the early Degema clan on the Island before the arrival of the Ijoid Abonnema people, the Obonoma people appear to have been 'ijawnized' by the Abonnema people, but Degema people still recognize them as a Degema clan.

Don't take my word for it. Make out time, and take a trip to Andoni, travelling is a part of education. Or you can take the lazy man route, by surfing the net on Andoni origin, language composition and classification, google is your friend after all.

Bro there is nothing like core Ijaw. The major problem Ijaw have is that we don't have a central dialect other than those of the respÉctive clans. The Ijaw People's Assembly in onÉ of its papers made mention of this and I see it as one of the major impediment on the Ijaw progress. I am an Okrikan, during my growing up I have known myself to be first an Okrikan before an Ijaw wch I later realise that it is not the way. The Ijaws need to look beyond politic and fashion the way forward for ourselves. I wish we can get a body of young Ijaw Intellectuals to look into some of these things and move the Ijaw Nation forward. I have always believed in the Ijaw nation and its ideals. I believe Izon shall be great.

oh really, thank you then, glad to learn something new...well, we almost all so westernized that I really don't know the history down there that much, but I'm pretty sure the degema people are very Kalabari...I mean there is no other dialect around here and Degema is a stone throw from Abonema where I'm from, been there a few times, just noticed it's too backward when compared to abonema or buguma...that may explain why we may be different...all the same cheers

I hope so as well, I've always almost only known myself as a Kalabari person, and just only during the 2006 militancy crisis that I could identify myself as Ijaw, and that was the only time I ever saw the Ijaw nation from delta, Rivers, Bayelsa, and Ondo agree on a point and act as one...Long live the ijaw nation
