It's official. Chivalry is dead.

These days men profess to being so worried about offending women and being accused of being patronising they are becoming reluctant to offer the so-called 'fairer sex' seats on public transport, to hold open doors and to help mothers carrying buggies up and down stairs.

Only one in seven men will offer their seat to a woman on a train or bus, and over a third say they never assist mothers struggling with heavy prams, according to research.

Fewer than one in five men will regularly pull out a chair for a woman to sit down, and over three-quarters don't offer to help carry a heavy bag or suitcase.

Why do men act so discourteously towards women these days?

Yes, it's dead and buried.

Y'all want gender equality. We are helping achieve it.

The problem is many women don't respect themselves and you don't expect someone like me to respect someone who doesn't respect herself.
A lousy, uncultured and uncouth lady (wether educated or not) who always chew gum about can never get my respect no matter how beautiful she is. You only get my respect when you respect yourself.

"What a man can do, a woman can do better"
This is the era
Gone are those days when I used to get off my seat in BRT for a lady to sit her butt.

Yes we do but sir you need to understand that chivalry and gender equality can co-exist very much well..

My opinion on gender equality, when it comes to the workplace, women and men should have the same rights to compete for jobs, to receive fair treatment, to get paid the same if they do the same work in the same circumstances etc.

Equality in the workplace does not mean that in social situations men and women are the same. Gender equality is not an excuse for you to treat women "not like a lady". Women are like delicate wall flowers men should cherish, respect and protect... Gender Equality or Not!

Your opinion is highly correct on the issue of gender equality. However, women/ladies sometimes think because they are one they should be given higher more treatment at the expenses of men/guys and that's where I sometimes have problem with them because if you look at it critically they are not really looking for gender equality but gender superiority (another topic for another day).
Also, ladies need to learn how to respect themselves so men can also respect themselves.
Last bullet: Don't term me a mysoginist, I'm not one only that I respect ladies who respect themselves.

Hope you don't chew gum around. winks smiley

There is this inbuilt part of a man that always want to care for and protect a woman, but when a lady comes with this her " we run the world attitude" the man just be like idc too.
