If there is one thing that Google has made clear over the past couple of years, it's that diversification is important when it comes to links. Not only do you need to diversify the anchor text, you also need to have good diversity when it comes to the TLD's (.com, .gov etc.). You will naturally get good variation with the common ones (.com, .net and .org) but some of the BEST ones are very hard to get. I'm talking about links from .edu and .gov sites! These links are inherently trustworthy and powerful! Afeterall, the average person can't just go register a .gov or .edu website! More restrictions on domain registration, and the average site on these TLD's being authoritative, make for SOLID backlinks. The problem is, they are hard to get!
