Tecno Phantom Z: Ultimate Review.. Pros And Cons by damcqute(m): 12:07pm On Sep 20, 2014
The Tecno Phantom Z also known as Tecno A7. Everything about this phone speaks PREMIUM.

The Phantom Z comes in a nice cream case that is really of good quality, and for a limited number of units, there is a Smart Cover and power bank bundled. The sales pack includes a headset, USB cable and charging point. It is built with quality plastic and the back cover is not removable. Meaning, you cannot remove the battery, similar to the also awesome infinix zero.

The screen is measured at 5.2 inches and is crystal clear. Honestly, it is indeed a super AMOLED screen with a resolution of 1080 by 1920 pixels. It is also quite sleek and easy to hold with a thinness of 7.8mm. It also comes with the latest Android OS.. Kitkat 4.4.2, a 2.0 GHz octa-core processor and a whooping 2GB RAM of RAM amongst others.

Now lets get down to the PROS and CONS. The following are the reasons you should get this massive device.

1) BATTERY: I put this as number 1 because in our environment, this is a big issue. This was also the major setback in the Infinix Zero phone. Obviously, Tecno is not willing to make that mistake. This Phone comes with a massive 3030mAh battery. And for a limited amount of supplies, the phone comes with a power bank too. Now i wonder what one will need a power bank for giving the size of the in-built battery. You can go the whole day without having to worry about your battery running low.

2) SCREEN: The screen of this phone can only be described as stunning. Playing games and watching videos on it will be such a delight. I am short of words to describe it. And it is reported that it comes with a gorilla glass for protection which is a good addition considering the bad history of Tecno phone screens cracking and all.

3) PROCESSOR SPEED AND RAM SIZE: A 2.0 GHz OCTA-CORE processor is enough to carry out whatever task you throw at the phone. From tests, only the first 4 cores are usually being used when using the phone heavily. Which means you have to throw a lot more at the phone before it uses all 8 cores. This translates to super speed. And with the RAM of 2GB, you can be rest assured that browsing with so many tabs open, multitasking with games and music all running at the background wont be a problem.

4) SLEEK DESIGN and 8MP front camera with LED flash: Ladies, you all know what this means right? It means you can take your favorite selfies in the dark. A lot of people may not fancy this but it is still a plus. The sleek design once again makes the phone extremely attractive. You can easily confuse it with phones made by bigger brands like Sony xperia and co.

5) KITKAT OS: Having the latest Operating System pre-installed is definitely an advantage. And with Tecno promising OTA upgrades, no news could sound better to Tecno fans.

BUT!

This wonderful device has some short comings. Its CONS are listed and explained below. None of which I can say is strong enough to discourage you from purchasing it, besides number 1... of course.

1) COST: At a retail price averaging N57,000, it is easy to make one discouraged and go for "more trusted brands" or the so called bigger brands. And also when compared with fellow upcoming brands made with the MEDIATEK chipset, it certainly is Expensive regardless of its jaw-dropping specs. Some devices with similar (not as good as though) specs cost way less than it.

2) CAMERA QUALITY: Yes, it has a 16mp back camera with flash. But the large Megapixel count doesn't necessarily translate into a high quality picture. The colors appear washed at times, especially at night. Even during the day, it doesn't paint the true picture of shots. I can compare it to the 5 megapixels found on the Nokia XL phone, if i am not mistaken. Fact is, Cameras have never been a strong or even selling points for Tecno devices.

3) MEMORY: You are probably surprised to see this here.....
