What is a body without a soul in it?

We have seen the human body in death, and we know that nothing differentiates it from the body of any animal. They both rot. During life, we can differentiate the human body from the animal one by how intelligent/sentient the human is compared to the animal. We also differentiate by appearance.

Evolution is the process by which different kinds of living organisms are thought to have developed and diversified from earlier forms during the history of the earth.

If you are a christian or muslim, you probably resent the theory of evolution, on the ground that it says you are descended from earlier forms (apes precisely ) or in other words that it places you on the same level as animals.

Being a christian or muslim also means you believe that man has a soul, distinct from the body. Other beliefs that follow are that the body is merely a vessel for the soul, that it has no place in the afterlife, that it is the embodiment of carnality and it leads man to sin,etc. The body leads man to sin, it is the soul that resists any temptation. Having no divinity or place in the after life and being a sinful object, this body is practically an animal.

I think this means that it is inconsistent to object to evolution on the ground that it places you on the same level as an animal, since evolution only refers to your body, not your soul. You are your soul and not your body.

This kind of inconsistency strengthens my belief that people who say man is a special being are unconsciously aware that man is nothing more than a bag of meat.

The catholic church appears to know both this and also that nothing stops God from being responsible for evolution. They accept evolution.

Do you reject evolution because it offends you to be related to an ape?

oh yeah is not an answer and i agree with you 100% that we are animals....i just want to know how you relate the body "being the temple of god" in your worldview and being related to apes...since the "temple" has ancestors....did they also have "souls"....and how is any if this perceptible in reality....

A simple analogy. The church or mosque, which is the house of God, is at the same time a building made of the same material as the brothel or the beer parlour. We do not glorify the cement used in building the church merely because it is now part of the house of God.

Referring to the body as the temple of God is simply a statement as to the purpose of body. It is not every body that will be a temple of God, just like not every building is a church.

You know if you say your soul is your body, it means there is no after life for you. Any damage to your body would also be damage to your soul.

Without any hope of the afterlife, of what use is it to believe in God? You would be better off without such a belief. At the very least there will be more certainty in your life.

Also, without any hope of the afterlife, your life's God given meaning becomes impaired since you are supposed to spend the greater part of your life in either heaven or the other place.

Your life's God given meaning is to come to heaven and praise him for eternity, fyi. That's why you only spend a smidgeon of your life here on earth and nobody in heaven takes into account what you did here on earth, except for your sin status at the time of your death.

You could make all of the money, or be the most skilled surgeon, or the most vocal human rights activist, or run the biggest NGO, or do a host of other things that are useful to society, but all of these do not interest God. If they do not interest God, who made them meaningful? You or God?
