How did we acquire this custom of having a soldier stand behind political office holders during public speeches or events? I have never seen President Obama or any other western leaders do it? Is it one of the vestiges of military rule? |

Because they do not trust their security system and so they need extra guidance |

It is only military officers that can withstand the stench of the fart that the politicians occassionally let loose from time to time during their speech. |

Only the President has a military officer (Aide de camp - ADC) usually a Major by rank standing behind him. Every other politician including the Vice President/Governor has a police officer (mostly from the mobile police command) as ADCs. |
