The Igbo local vegetable salad is a relishing traditional delicacy of the Igbo tribe of Nigeria. It is mostly prepared to serve alongside a main dish. It is eaten as a dessert or as a heavy snack with some fresh palm wine or traditionally brewed beer. It can be prepared as a spicy food also to get the body warm in cold weather. The Igbo local vegetable salad aka African salad and Abacha or Eberebe is featured in most traditional occasions or commemorative occasions like today’s Nigerian Independence celebration, and it greatly appeals to the organoleptic senses (appearance, aroma and taste), very delicious and nutritious if prepared well.

noooo only when u use too much akaun bt if u use ngu or ogiri instead of akaun, it comes out perfect.

this african salad is a serious health risk. it has been linked to severe gastroenteritis. the local hawkers of this food usually sell it highly contaminated, loaded with enteric pathogens. the last outbreak of cholera in lagos was linked to consumption of this food.

Nice one, yummy but i prefer my abacha all mixed up as in fresh pepper, roasted pepper, veggie, ugba, onions, abacha and the ncha, garden egg and fried fish placed on the mixture. Served with any soft drink. You go hear am

I'm soo not into that ncha(akanwu). It does affect my stomach, I'd fart and purge throughout the day I would dare include it in my abacha. Everyother thing you listed makes the food on point for me..

Really? So how do you make your ncha without the akanwu, that's acid and base forming soap= ncha in Igbo

I don't add the ncha at all into my abacha, which means I do not add the akanwu either.
I'm in soup the day I'd try that.

My abacha isn't white. I soak it in hot water then pour it into the mixture containing palm oil, onions, oil bean shey na ukpaka, and it's likes.
I stir vigorously thus making my abacha yellowish in colour as normal.

NNE, you are missing the action o, you mean no akanwu to saponify the palm oil and add to the abacha ncha? Yours is abacha mmanu and not abacha ncha. Lols.

Lol at abacha mmanu not abacha ncha.
That's the summary of how I pepare my abacha. I don't make use of the akanwu, even the few occasions I patronise outsiders, I insist on them not adding that mixture to it.

The ncha/abacha paste can be made without akanwu in a very natural way. This is made from palm kernel stock. It is usually burnt to ashes and the and the ashes washed and sieved. The water is what you use for the ncha. You can store this for as long as you want and you only need little to make your abacha paste. I have the one my mum brought when she came on visit for over two years now and i use when i want. This does not in anyway have side effect as it is all natural. If you have not totally lost touch with people in the village you can ask them about it and they can send to you.

Not exactly black if well sieved, that's the most healthiest way to saponify abacha oil, 100% natural, it doesn't purge for ndi afo ojoo like me. That akanwu does not only purge me but gives me indigestion too but with the "ngu" I'm good to go with abacha any day any time
