Stomach Infrastructure Vs Physical Infrastructure by G51Apostles: 10:12am On Oct 22, 2014
A new lexicon has been introduced in our political lexicon which is “stomach infrastructure” This means a situation whereby food items, money and other edible items are distributed to the electorates in order to gain their votes and support. On the other hand Physical Infrastructure is the basic physical, organizational structure and social amenities needed for the operation of a society, enterprise, services and facilities necessary for an economy to function thereby bringing about sustainable and improved living standard of the people.
Pundits are of the opinion that it is the greatest determinant of June 22 governorship election in Ekiti State where Mr Ayodele Fayose won the incumbent governor Kayode Fayemi.
But one thing that is undisputable is the fact that Mr Fayose is a grassroot politician with tremendous support and acceptability from the people. The pertinent questions begging for our answer are;
1. Between physical infrastructure and stomach infrastructure which do you think should be given more consideration?
2. How best do you think that a responsible government can effectively adopt and sustain stomach infrastructure?
3. Do you think the people should extort as much money as possible from politicians before voting for them?
4. What role do you think we the masses can play inorder to hold our political office holders more accountable and answerable to us?
Please Dear Nairalanders, let us register our contributions to this very important discourse as it will be highly appreciated from an enlightened forum like this.

Somehow but you can't blame them. Food comes first. It's a priority.

Governments should always check the impact assessment of their projects on the masses. Projects that tend to put food on the table of the common man should be their priority such as ensuring that more industries are located in their states by creating industrial estates with cheap lands, etc. But projects that improverish the people would create enmity for such a government when their economic base is destroyed without alternative. If the project is to improve the road network and beautify the city, the economy base of the common man on the streets must be protected. The masses votes people into power with the believe that their lives would improve, but if things get worse for them they would react negatively. Governors should think of projects that impacts positively on the economic lives of the common man.
