2003, he became the owner of the companies that
control Chelsea FC in West London taking over
from Ken Bates, who went on to buy Leeds United.
He immediately embarked on a programme of
commercial development to
make Chelsea one of the best clubs in Europe.
Chelsea was to stabilize financially and be self-
sufficient. He appointed one of the most
prestigious young managers in 2004, Jose
Mourinho, to take over the club management after
the Italian Claudio Ranieri failed to deliversilverwa
re and despite a series of managers coming and
going Chelsea has never looked back.
During his just over ten years as the owner,
Chelsea has gone from strength to strength with
an unprecedented success on the pitch winning
three Premier League titles and a Champions
League among a host of other
trophies.
