Protesting Workers Shut Edo Govt House Over Unpaid Salaries by homesteady(m): 7:54am On Oct 31, 2014
Activities at the Edo State Government House
were put on hold on Wednesday by protesting
workers of the state owned tertiary
institutions over unpaid salaries and alleged
poor condition of service .
The protesters under the aiges of Coalition of
Unions of Edo State Owned Tertiary
Institutions , were drawn from College of
Education, Ekiadolor ; College of Education
Igueben; Institute of Science and Technology ,
Usen and College of Agriculture , Iguoriakhi .
The protesters who adorned themselves in black
attire in their hundreds, also demanded for
immediate payment of 16 months salary
arrears said to have been approved between
July 2009 and October 2010
Among other things, the aggrieved workers
also decried unpaid promotion arrears ,
stoppage of Trust fund/ Cooperative monies
for the running of the institutions , dilapidated
infrastructures and non provision of fund for
immediate accreditation of courses
President of the Coalition of Unions of
Institutions , Fred Omonuwa , disclosed that
they have engaged the state government
through the Commissioner for Education over
the issues , adding that , the workers can
longer continue to bear the pains .
He also frowned at the decision of the state
government to resort to selective preference
by choosing to pay their counterparts in sister
institution, Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma ,
regular monthly pension and gratuities and
increased in subvention to AAU while they are
left unattended to .
The State Head of Service, Mr Igbaeremen
Obazele, who received the protesters on behalf
of governor Adams Oshiomhole , said
government had since constituted a team
headed by Rev Peter Obadan, a former Deputy
Governor, to look at the issues raised . He
attributed the delay to failure by the
management of three out of the four
institutions to make available the needed
statistics.
“ You don ’ t hold meeting without computation.
You cannot negotiate without adequate
records . The summary of this issue is money .
The summary of your demand is increase in
subvention and the government cannot make
increase subvention without knowing what is
on the ground , ” Obazele told the protesters .

All they care about is salaries rather than shaping the country's future.
Why not take your protest to Jonathan, madueke and Iweala in Abuja, where they have completely messed up the country's finances.

Seriously something is wrong with your reasoning process, your brain is faulty and if not seek medical attention urgently this political party slavery will damage your brain. MUMU a work man is entitle to his wage.

So a man with family at home, wife and children pay bills at the end of the month, should forgo salary so as to reshape the country's future when there is enough money for politicians to loot and starch in a foreign account right?

Please tell your father to return his own salary ode, between did you read this part?

The protesters under the aiges of Coalition of

you mean jonathan should be responsible for their package when millions are given to the state governors, that they don't use for nothing apart from sponsor their political ambition, finance their parties while they loot the rest?

No wonder your debtor doctor governor refuse to pay workers but buying bed for 50 million. Progressive indeed

You see your life? Instead OF blaming the leadership of EDO State, you are blaming GEJ. Must blind loyalty be exhibited in serious issues as this? Is this how you were taught to support APC? With people like you, an APC e-warrior, jubilating because civil servants salaries are not paid, Nigerians would be dead should APC takes over the leadership of this country (God forbid).
I pray Nigerians know their real enemy - APC.

All of you replying my comments are all slow pokes like your TANidiot masters.
Are the states getting their allocation on time ?
Are they getting the right amount based on crude sales?
Is the federal government not making illegal deductions ,which are not being reflected in any other account.
Are the country's finances not messed up because of the fall in crude prices, the corruption and the mismanagement of NNPC?
Is the CBN not wasting what is left of OBJ foriegn reserve to defend the worthless naira?
Is the government is gradually running out of money especially if oil prices continue falling?
Call me when you get the answers .

The kid in house died, u say make dem no feed the elders. Shey na the elders kill the kid ni?

The point is, because dem mess up finances for abuja, make workers no eat for edo abi? Na dem spoil finance ni?

If he can't pay up, he shld cut down his cost of governance, resign or cut down the size of working staff...

As finance no good from Abuja, he no dey eat abi he no dey collect his own salaries or daily allowances?

Cut the size of government.
The meat to cut out of Edo state is the civil service itself. The civil service salary accounts for most of the recurrent expenditure . You are talking as if the Nigerian civil service is that reasonable. They would rather have the whole budget spent on salaries with no capital expenditure .as if government is for the typical, 25,000 strong ,Nigerian state civil service where there are 6 million other citizens to be taken care of .
If Abuja is not paying the state , where should the governor get the money from.
Even amaechi from the rich Rivers state has had to dip into his rainy day fund.

Are you not PATHETIC Why continue to make excuses for the profligacy of our state governors angry
Did any state tell you that they have not received their DUE monthly allocation from Abuja derived from Niger Delta oil revenue?

If they could drag the FEDERAL government to court over the Sovereign Wealth Fund, don't you think they would have dragged the FG to court again if indeed they were not being fully paid as you allege?

He wondered why the PDP governors were not
complaining about the dwindling revenue, urging

phoolish and stupid pay per post slave, do you know if this state government are not over dependent on the center they can actually pay their salary without waiting for monthly stipends? what stop the state government from investing money accrued to them which can give employment to the masses and also generate income for the state at the same time, why do they have to wait for stipends from the govt.

Their is transportation, energy, aviation, several that a state govt. can invest in, do you have brain to think? they are not getting allocation but have 50 million to buy bed, do they go to heaven from that bed? do they have longer night than the poor ekiti villagers who sleep in mat and mattress? they don't get allocation but Chibuzor amaechi has turn river's state treasury to apc national treasury and now a mobile atm where they can withdraw form anytime they deem fit.

You need get a life seriously, we have 36 state governors that are useless and unproductive, they can't generate a dime from their state apart from organizing thugs who go bundle innocent citizens who managed to create job for themselves their hard earn income in the name of tax and govt. levy, while they can't create a single job or investment that will generate additional income, they are now pay masters, who wait for monthly stipends from abuja, pay salary, embezzle the rest and wait till the following month, should oil money stop today, most state can't generate 500k internally.

see, this guy has been paying before now so, what's stopping him now?

My point is not directed at ashiomole being an APC governor but to all the governors either PDP or APC...

They are known to owe workers' salary when about to leave office all in a bid to steal it...

They all do it so he shld pay up and stop the excuse. They're all the same
