Igbo And Yoruba Collaboration Can Change Nigeria, If They Bury The Hatchet For Once (Part II) By Dr. Wumi Akintide
an excerpt.

"I am also saying with emphasis that the Yorubas love the Igbos more than the Igbos love the Yorubas. Kenneth Olawale, an Igbo young man born and raised in Akure was elected and selected as the Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly which is third in rank to the State Governor. I knew it because Kenneth came from my constituency in the Igbatoro/Ala Ajagbusi/Igunshin area of Akure North Local Government. Who voted for Kenneth to become honorable member and speaker? It was the Yorubas. We knew he was an Igbo man but we loved him and we knew he could do the job well.

Once upon a time, Ogbuefi Nnamdi Azikiwe as I hinted earlier, was on his way to becoming the first Premier of the old Western Region in 1954. Who voted for him? It was we, the same Yoruba people.

When Awolowo launched free and compulsory education and free medical treatment in the old Western Nigeria, many Igbo parents and their children emigrated to the West in huge numbers to take advantage of the program. Many of their children were my classmates in primary school in Akure. Awolowo did not exclude them and the Yorubas never resented them at all for coming to the West to enjoy a program the Azikiwe Government in the Eastern Region could not offer them. Many of those Igbo sons and daughters, including Elias Ibe Opadike, an engineer who now lives in Detroit, and Alex Omeke, a good friend of mine, were some of the beneficiaries of the Awolowo ‘s free education and free medical coverage in the old Western Region.

The two gentlemen are alive today and living in America. They are encouraged to feel free to issue a rebuttal if they think I am lying. As a matter of fact I would be sending them copies of this article for that reason. I write about what I know and never about hearsay.

None of the properties left behind in Yorubaland by the Igbos during the Biafran war were confiscated or taken away by the Yorubas like the Rivers people and Ikwere people did to the abandoned properties of the Igbos in Port Harcourt and in much of the South/South. What more evidence of love and consideration do the Igbos want from the Yorubas?

Interesting. You have valid points.

The Yoruba originated in Ile Ife, according to Yoruba tradition.

Ife Moore Mope.

The word Ife is Yoruba homonym for love, and the mantra of Ife is 'onife abure' that is,

'whoever has love will attract friends'.

May this love work for Yoruba, Naija and her people.

You think am lying, why is it that Omonile's charges the igbos tripple, more than the amount the land is been bought? ask a typical yoruba man direction to a bank, he will direct You to a lagoon.

You people are mentioning akure too much these days.

Every single day, you are instructed to bring up the town in one context or another.

Softly softly o, una dey think say una get protection.

These words are flowery but are also blasphemous. Ife (re do) means expansion not love by any stretch of the imagination. Are you a Yoruba man? Ife (do mi) is love. There is a clear distinction. Turning things upside down to appeal to sentiments or for whatever reason is wrong. Ife was the point where land rose above the oceans and started to expand. The first patch of land inhabited by terrestrials on Earth. Ife (re do) is expansion, Ife (do mi) is love. Ife (re re) is cup. The Yoruba language may become castrated in future but it is not yet castrated. Saying Ife (re do) is same as Ife (do mi) is very outrageous. Its like saying go is thesame as come. A speaker of a tonal language will understand

You are a subject of Ife, the centre of your cosmos.

I am 'omo oniporogun l'ode Orun'.

I'm from the makers of Ife.

Who are you?

I am not a subject of Ife unless you say Ijesas are subjects of Ife which will be wrong. You are a subject of Ife as you say. I am not. I am from Ejemu family in Ere Ijesa. We settled there from Ijero from the Ejemu family in Ijero who are the custodians of the Ajero title. Ogun Ajero is my patrilineal ancestor. All others are my ancestors too.

Ancient Obas were servants of the people, when they fail, they are sacked by being ordered to commit suicide. Somebody who is Oba should be sober and be not referring to others as subjects, though nowadays, no Oba has real powers. They are mainly decorations. Ifes of all Yoruba groups are the smallest in population. Possibly there are more Oyos on Ife land than real Ife indigenes but all see the Ooni as their Oba.

This present Ife was recognised by the present Yorubas as such, probably because at one point around less than 2 thousand years ago, it was their most successful state producing segi beads. The Ife is now very small compared to others having only 4 local government with the core indigenes in full occupation of like two of them.

It's so sad but true....Igbos don't even love themselves that much. enugu ibos don't like ebonyi ones; anambra ibos don't marry Imo ones, abia ones are suspected and more or less hated by the others....its so sad!
So where can you even find any love at all for the other tribes (when some among themselves can't even intermarry) ?

FYI its very difficult if not impossible to purchase land in the SE, Ibo region if you're not ibo, whereas the Yorubas allow anyone that have the means to buy land, help them develop it, etc in their region, SW. And they'll be shouting 'marginalisation!' upandan.

BUNCH OF TRIBALISTISTS!!! Little wonder their region is not developing as rapidly as it should. (Many Anambra people cross the state lines into neighbouring Asaba, Delta state to build their houses-they prefer not to build their houses in their own state!!! FACT!)

As it is written: Your house is left unto you desolate (unless you change this evil attitude!)
[PIC][See current President of Nigeria, Prez Bola Tinubu, former President, Prez Aremu Obasanjo, in Imo state with newly reelected gov, Hope Uzodinma.....Note also in the background-smiling heartily is Yorubaland's First Class Oba-Ooni Ogunwusi. All there to celebrate the inauguration of governor Hope. How many First Class Obas or Obis do we see doing the reverse in Yorubaland? None of recent!]

Hmmph!
