Jonathan’s promise on power 4 years ago

Speaking with United Nations diplomats on Monday, 31st January 2011 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, President Goodluck Jonathan made this promise:
“If I’m voted into power, within the next four years, the issue of power will become a thing of the past. Four years is enough for anyone in power to make a significant improvement and if I can’t improve on power within this period, it then means I cannot do anything…”
About four years after, the promise is yet to be fulfilled. Be the judge…

At my spare time I like giving lectures on the power situation in the country and you the posters above me are lucky to be my audience. As we progress please be objective in your submission without perjury or been bias.

The president made a statement, that doesn't make him a magician. To me as a field engr four yrs is even small to achieve or actualize the blueprint on ground in the power sector.

I would sight instances where installations are ongoing, projects abandoned by the post administrations used as conduit to siphon public funds but resuscitated today by the current regime. If anyone of you here is an engr or a planner he would know better the stages it takes to set up a 350MW power plant.

1.To prepare the technical tender alone takes a minimum of 2yrs like a round the clock work.
2.Submission by companies to the technical board and review may take a yr.
3. Award of contract
4. Engineering review of all designs and approval by a team of dedicated heads takes months.
5. Placing LC for offshore procurement; machines and components with subsequent departure and arrival takes time cuz the components will be built from scratch.
6. In cases where it is a new facility, gas supply to that area will take kilometres of pipeline construction. Now depending on the diameter of the pipe, distance and terrain, construction welding could take up to a yr.
7. Commissioning and all that, brothers pls do the math.

Now within the four yrs he has been in office a lot and I mean a huge chunk of that promise to Nigerians has been kept through public/private partnership and more are still coming. Visit Ijora in Lagos and ask what's going on there.

I welcome your questions and will clear your doubts without a blink. Tell the man who wrote that article to hook me up here on NL let me teach him journalism. Thanks
