I've just been wondering recently about how we Nigerians have totally taken so much to foreign names. People have even forgotten that religious names are foreign too. Of course, everyone is entitled to their right to bear any name. But I think we should reconsider that fact. The government can make it compulsory for new parents to have a Nigerian name as first and middle. They can then make the third or fourth names foreign. I always feel we as a people are too quick to run away from our identity. Which has been the bane of our existence ever since the Europeans came to our shores. There's nothing wrong in adapting but sometimes keeping what makes us who we are is very important in preserving our culture and heritage.
