RX 300 Or Honda Pilot Or Toyota Highlander by babaeko1: 3:21pm On Nov 06, 2014
Hello

I'm considering the 3 jeeps mentioned above, both of them have mileage around 140k. I'm trying to decide which is better based on the following.

How easy and cheap if will be to repair
Locating parts
Solid for Nigerian terrain
Resale in 2-3 years time

Thanks in advance

The Highlander for Parts availability and Resale value.
The Pilot for Solidity.

What's your basis for this analysis/conclusion?

With your words my brother you have not told us anything we need
1. Your budget
2. Your area/ what u intend to use the car for
3. Do you want power or fuel economy
4. Do you mind any of them with disregard for luxury

Until you tell us that's when we can help you

Economy is one area
Cheap to maintain is another area
Good re sale
Car to be mainly used in Lagos on any terrain.

I will also like to throw I Rav4 into the equation, has 110k miles

People may disagree with you that there is no car that is cheap to maintain but on a lay man basis and taking into cognizance two cars of same year, like VW tuareg V6 and toyota 4runner V6 of same year, the toyota maybe cheaper due to availability of parts and limited electrical components, now back to the topic, the Rx300 and toyota highlander of same year were based on the same body parts (almost) its the badge that's different but the highlander has a i4 variant while the lexus comes only in V6 so if you are kinda looking for a car that looks like a SUV and very roomy then the 4cylinder highlander is your choice but if you want and highlander with more luxury to beat that your arrogant neighbor then thE Rx300 should be your choice.

The Honda pilot is a good solid vehicle rugged too but ask yourself this, do you need a self contain vehicle or flat with boys quarters, swimming pool and a bar where 7 to 8 guys can relax comfortable, well that's what the pilot is its got third row seats, roomy and rugged.
The highlander also has a variant with 3rd row seat but kinda cramped up, I don't know whether u can get a 4cylinder with third row seat. Others should enlighten you on whether you need a 4wd, Awd or just the regular front wheel drive.

Lemme disagree with you on this.
1. Midsized SUVs with 3rd row seats are cramped in the rear seat. Only suitable for small people or children Even the Pathfinder 05 which is bigger than the pilot honda is cramped, ML with 3rd row seats are cramped. Only full sized SUVs, minivans and Estate cars offer generous room in their 3rd row seats.

2. Pilots 1st generation prefacelift models aren't rugged. They are prone to transmission crashing.
3. Pilot only has a tad better offroad capability than Highlander. Its still a soft roader. Its locking diffs automatically disengages at speeds over 30km/hr to FWD mode. Whereas the 4WD highlander's systems are full time, go read reviews about 1st generation highlander and discover the highlander is underrated and it does excellently in wet, slick, snow/ice, or muddy and undulating terrain than toyota even advertised it. The pilot may be bigger, brawnier, roomier but its never rugged and can't compare to the Highlander.

I don't like the first en Honda pilot the body shape irritates me I like the preface lifted version and off course the newer generation. I don't know about the transmission problems but that car is solid and rugged and to add this the 3rd row of the pilot is more comfortable than the 3rd row of the highlander.

With my description of the pilot I may have exaggerated but what I was trying to explain is that the pilot is bulkier than the highlander if he doesn't need all that room, he can shy away from it.
