I have always thought about what the moon and the star means to the Muslim because I always see it on the cap of the mosque. I am christian, I have asked my Muslim friends they'd say they don't know. I just wanna know what it means at least I know what the cross means to Christianity. Thank you

It basically has no meaning. Islam never officially had a symbol. This symbol was created during the reign of the Ottoman empire.

Many muslims don't even use it.
