My nigerian sistas are long gone. They are like the worst when it comes to self-hate. They taken this whole wig/weave/perm craze to a whole new level of idiocy. They now see it as a symbol of refinement and higher socioeconomic status.

In the area where i grew up, Enugu, these sistas loose their plaited and braided hair immediatedly after secondary school. If not that perms and weaves are not allowed in secondary schools they would have switched to fakeness much earlier on in life.

By the way, i have never ever seen an Igbo woman with dreadlocks. what's up with that?

I see two problems with both sides of the issue.

1. The OP is ignoring the natural versitility of African hair. Our hair by nature, can withstand and can adopt a lot of styles. Why shouldn't we have the option of taking advantage of that? Placing our hair in one way just to fit what others believe is "black beauty"is not only is silly, but it also keeps blacks in a box.

2. The opponents of Fayah's views have compared not relaxing or weaving to not bathing. That is asinine and a prime example of self-hatred. Our natural kinks and curls are not comparable to bad hygeine. Our hair is not ugly, but some of you posters mentality is.

Health issue - No one has died from excess use of moisturizer on either skin or scalp.

Financial issue - Technically, Asians make cars too. . . should we stop buying cars then? Nigeria should make their own hair products if it makes them feel so good.

Sacrilegious - not all of us are christians and for those of us that are, it talks about not putting tattoos or permanent marks on our bodies as desecrating God's temple. Premarital sex does that too . . . why not preach that first?

Psychological - It increases one's self esteem and improves one's body image.
