My niece is just two years old and has already started school, the major problem I had with her recently is she just can't write abc or 123 not a to z just the first three letters, whether I asked her to write it on a book or scribble it on my tab she can't she just keep on writing yama yama. But she can read along both abd and 123 when played to her.

Is it that she is too young to be able or she is not.

You should be the one learning that ABC and 123,because u need the learning not her.

A child of 2years that is still being taught how to hold pencils should start writing ABC for u?

Or do u think all kids are the same..
It is her age to start writing that YAMA YAMA-for her to write YAMAYAMA sef means her brain is active-SHE knows she needs to write something and she is with the materials for writing.
U never see the ones wey u go give book and pencil-them go begin chop am like food.

Thanks for the comment, but there was no need for you to take it personal. She already knows how to hold a pencil and do write this tins cause I see it in her books but when I tell her to write it I.e her home work she is more interested in writing yama yama than the real deal.

At 2 years she she will just be learning to hold a pencil, scribble, colour without guidance, tracing, etc. It is when she has been in school for a while that she will get the hang of it. By 3 years, she should be able to write alphabets and numbers.

In school, they will hold her hand and help her trace, write etc. It's the stage she is at.

Dear Nurey, you are expecting way way too much, she is way too young to write ABC, please wait till she is three before you start getting worried.

Her brain is still developing, give her time.

Hian, this is pure wickedness. A two year old is still too young for that pls. She could start writing those properly say when she is well over 3..

I beg you in the name of whatever you fear, let the child be. She is doing well for her age. At this stage all they do is scribble, color anyhow, and even tear the pages of books in the name of scribbling, hold pencil with both hands. Am shocked that she writes a-c. They can't even draw a straight horizontal line yet. For goodness sake, when u were that age could you write a-z?
Am sorry but this your post has disturbed my mind.

Shuuuu! You for give am pencil when she dey inside belle na! I dey pity kids of these days. Dem no even get time play at all. Before them born dem finish, dem don buy school uniform keep for them. Smh

In the end, these children still don't develop faster than we did back in the days when we didn't know what pencil was till we were 4 years old.

I don't know why people carry other people's matter on their head. @op, technically your niece is not your child so I don't know why it is your business cuz the parents are not complaining about their child.

Thank you all for your advice I will take it into account and ease off, some of you did not read my query at all I said only ab and c not the whole a-z and just 1-4 nothing more and for those that said its none of my biz, this the reason why Nigeria is like that when we close our eyes to what we all can do and leave it for anybody to do, it ends up been done by nobody. Thank you all

Don't take people's answers personally please.

I think people react in such a way because there have been many similar threads lately and it seems that parents are losing it slowly.
They expect their children to read and write at 4, which is still quite early.

Don't teach her how to write at all at this stage of her development.

She must first learn other things.

- learn to walk and at the same time carry large toys
- climb onto and down from furniture unassisted
- build towers of four blocks
- begin to sort by shapes and colors
- use two - four word sentences
- demonstrate increasingly independent behavior

and much much more ................................

BUT DEFINITELY NOT READING AND WRITING FOR NOW, not even a, b, c.

Other things have priority. Don'T push her. She will develop naturally. Stimulation and encouragement is all she needs. Appreciate every little thing. wink

I was just joking with my first sentence in my post.

The child is developing well since she can scribble on papers.
She should not know how to write without assistance @ her age and if she can den u have a genius niece.

Watch her learn and grow at her own space.

UNCLE,relax okay.
I am sure the kid will be like-THIS MY TEACHER uncle sef.abeg pass me ur certificate make I draw better design.

Thank you very much, she is infact very brilliant and can handle anything thrown at her infact I just thank God she didn't come as a boy if not she will wrestle me anytime she gets angry very agile cutie.

She handles brain taxing works easily and gets excited with tablet learning.

You are welcome. smiley

I am sure you are a great uncle. smiley wink

Just remember that children have an inherent motivation to learn during their first years. No need to push them. cheesy

In many well developed countries children do not start to learn how to read and write until they are 6 so you have enough time.
My mother taught me how to write my name when I was 4 because I wanted to learn it. wink
