Sienna 2000. Excessive Fuel Consumption by fyneIjay(f): 8:16pm On Nov 27, 2014
Hi house, I am having a problem with my car, a Toyota Sienna 2000 model. The car has started consuming a lot of fuel lately.
Before a journey that will normally take about 10 liters of fuel now takes sometimes 20/25 liters. Initially the mechanic said it must be the Air flow meter, because of the black smoke and dark oil gauge in the engine. The airflow meter has been changed, but the problem persists. Now am being told that it can be the air control (which the another mechanic insists works with the airflow meter) or a change of the brain box will do the trick.
Note:
This cars brain box needs to be first reprogrammed. But I am hearing that there is another type of brain box that can be fitted into the car without it being reprogrammed.
Please I need auto gurus suggestions so that I don't just keep wasting money on trial and error.
please.

Enough of the experiment done on your car. First thing you need to do is scan your car. When you do that, the cause of thr the excessive fuel consumption would be fished out. If you are in Lagos check my signature to reach me if you need scan that car of yours. Bb pin is 7BE1C522

Bro, I appreciate your suggestion. But I am based in the east. Aba to be precise. And I don't know where to scan the car here. I either rely on these experiments or I rely on Nairaland.

Hmm...excessive fuel consumption could be anything....from bad o2 sensors to fouled sparkers.....If you rush into the problem blindly you might be better off buying another sienna with the money you'd have used to do try and error.....
.And all that ecu stuff? in my opinion....odds are the ecu (brainbox) is hardly the problem. Let me put it like this....if your computer warns you its hard drive is full....do you address the problem by deleting unecessary stuff or you change your computer? I hope you get my analogy....your mech may be in effect killing a mosquito with a nuclear bomb!! grin

So yeah, like mayor2013 rightly said ....go scan the car first, I bet you'll find a diagnostic center if you look hard enough...I cant help finding one though as i'm in Ghana.

Cheers!!

Thanks Mayor I get your point and I believe deep down that it has nothing to do with ECU/ brain box. I wish I can actually get a place where I can do the scan in Aba.

Have to mention you here FyneIjay. Saw your post about investing in Treasury Bill would have commented but don't want to derail.

Some suggested diversifying maybe into Real Estate.
Yes of cause it is a better alternative especially where location will be profitable.

Now let's look at another dimension of Real Estate. In Grenadines Homes we have a project called The Oceanna Hotel and Towers.

check www.theoceanna.com
If you feel it's something worthwhile call/whatsapp
+2347034503352 for details

If Treasury Bill will give you a maximum of 15% or at extreme 18% ROI, Oceanna will guarantee you 29% ROI yearly.

NB: will give you every details, including investment schemes we have and also a visit to our Head office if there is an interest indication.

TB, is guaranteed by the Federal government and that is all that matters for now. We are not looking for a get rich quick scheme.
Thank you all the same.

I understand being guaranteed. Oceanna is not a get rich quick scheme. The project is still under construction, located in VI lagos.
It's just about laying you investment foundations.
Thanks anyway

This happened to my Siena. I changed the airflow still nothing.

The nozzles were leaking and the plugs bad. Immediately this was changed and also the fuel filter changed the black smoke stopped and it stopped gulping fuel.

Everything back to normal.
