Good evening Nairalanders........I'm a lawyer .I
work with a law firm somewhere in the
southwest of Nigeria. I have a personal car. My
mum just got herself a nice car and decided to
let me use it first due to some reasons so we
exchanged cars. To my greatest shock and
surprise, my principal(boss) called me to his
office today and started lambasting me. He
said why will I use a car that is more expensive
than his own. He is the one paying my salary
and I have no right whatsoever to use a car
more expensive than his own. He said its
foolishness on my part and even threatened to
sack me if I bring the car to the office again
despite the fact that I told him its my mum's
car......Fellow intelligent Nairalanders,what do
u think please?

Take your old car back and start looking out for better opportunities coz your boss definitely does not want your progress.
As a lawyer I believe you have the right to sought and attend to clients outside the law firm on your own. what if you handled a matter and the pay is very rewarding? This your boss fit kill you o. find somewhere where your progress will be supported.

You boss is someone who could be qualified as bad belle. If possible, look for another job. Such people never want the progress of others. Don't say I never warned you.

You're both lawyers. You and your boss should know the consequences of unlawful dismissal...

BTW, your boss is a low-life, employee-hating, subordinate-envying, insecure, myopic, shallow c*nt (Forgive my language)...

But that's just my opinion though. smiley

Veralaw:
Sue the damn goat for jealousyangry
He should sue the damn goat for jealousy and after, what follows? He will remain at home doing nothing or probably searching for a new job? Okay, he is a lawyer, he won't lack clients. Do you think to have a chamber and get clients is that easy? Also, if he sues his boss and wins, other hidden things which you may not know will follow, apart from being sacked. You know what I mean? No!!! it hasn't gotten to that.

@Datbay, take things peacefully afterall, he's your boss. Do what your boss asked you to do, in respect of the car issue and keep looking out for another opportunity if you're not okay with that.

Okay, let's be sincere with each other here. Supposing you own a chamber and you're just managing one smoky golf that usually breaks down on motion and suddenly your mere secretary began to use a clean Jeep to the office, won't you do the same thing your boss is doing right now?

'I rest my case jari'.

Your boss has a low self esteem. The fact that he owes a business should give him enough joy rather than bothering himself about the material properties of his employees.

Return your mom's car and don't bring your flaunting skills to the office anymore.

Your problem shouldn't be about the car bhut your progress in life with this devil you called boss.

1) You can not open your law firm without his approval and the law firm must not do well than his.

2) Your family must not be beautiful than his own or else you go smell your yansh.

Op trust me, its partly not your fault but humility and respect should play a vital role here. Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely, Your boss is your boss, you might not see anything wrong in this issue but with time, it will surely get into your head and you will start measuring shoulders with your boss, thats human nature.
When i was in school, i was using my brother's E320, but i dont park within the department, i park few blocks away from my department, i do this in respect for those lecturers that use "moto" in order not to incite their ego, moreover, most of my coursemates never knew i was driving.
Please save your job because that is what you will use to maintain your car, cars dont run on water.

@op, your boss is definitely a nice guy believe me.

This kind of issue is very common in every organisation. My uncle was sacked from his previous working place cos of this same thing. His own boss didnt even say anything when he got a new car. It was after they sacked him that his colleagues told him all what happened.

Pls just do the needful @op.

I won't call it insecurity on his part, neither will i call it "bad belle", jealousy, low self esteem etc.... I don't want to look at it from his part at all. I just want you to apply knowledge, drop your mums car and use yours to office, you can then use anyone you like after official hours, by doing that, you retain your job and at the same time have it at the back of your mind that its about that time you should "fire" your boss and look for where your growth will be appericiated....

A piece from my little cute mind
