INTRODUCTION.  I was completely shocked and awed when I heard about the THL 5000. Coming from my Gionee m2 which had a superb battery life of 4200mah, 5000mah seemed like a dream. As mentioned above, the defining feature of this handset is its mammoth battery. Unboxing the THL 5000 The THL 5000 comes in a nice white box with the THL logo on the front. The box contains the following accessories - an earphone, a microUSB cable and a charger, 2 Screen Protector(one already applied to the screen and the other one is inside the box), a Flip Cover,Silicon Case, a robot OTG Cable (charges another phone and also read any type of external device like flashdrive, card reader, gaming pad e.t.c) and a User Manual

HARDWARE FRONT The front of the device contains the proximity sensor, the notification led, front facing camera and mic. The removable back is black textured plastic and holds the speaker, 13MP camera and flash. The volume buttons and power button are well situated height wise on both sides of the phone, making them relatively easy to reach. BACK. Opening up the back cover, you will see the non-removeable 5000mAh battery, a MicroSD slot, and a GSM SIM Slot and another GSM/WCDMA SIM slot. (the sim 2 can always be switched to 3G under phone settings) |

DISPLAY The screen is a 5 inch" 1920x1080 resolution panel with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and OGS (One Glass Solution) technology. With the screen filters, the colours on the device are really cool. Sunlight legibility isn't bad at all, with the phone brightness icon threshold at the middle, i see the phone screen well in direct sunlight. I also launched cpu-z and discovered that the screen density is 480dpi(Too sharp)

BATTERY With a 5000mAh battery, there is no doubt that this phone will have amazing battery life. I got the phone on friday Dec 5, i didn't want to use a generator or powerbank to charge the phone since there was no nepa light, then on saturday, Dec 6, i charged it overnite till Sunday Dec 7 with Nepa light. On a "normal" battery test, i used the phone from 100% at about 7a.m to make only phone calls, and do some slight browsing, app installation, normal pressing to learn the features of my new phone, At the end of the day at about 10p.m, I was left with 27% battery. On monday december 8, Charging the phone from 0% to 100% took about 4hrs and some minutes. On using my phone from 8a.m that same monday, the battery lasted for 12hrs on heavy usage, i.e heavy browsing, whatsapping continuously, playing hd games, watching hd movies, e.t.c, then as at 8p.m in the evening my ba3 was now at 1%. I wasnt that impressed cos my former gionee m2 with 4200mah battery lasts me for 16-17hrs on heavy usage, it seems that the MTK6592 chipset used in this thl5000 consumes alot of battery. So on a heavy usage expect 12-13hrs on the go, and 24hrs+ on slight usage of the phone. |

SOFTWARE AND PERFORMANCE The THL 5000 runs a stock version of Andorid 4.4.2 with a custom launcher installed and custom icons It does come with some bloatware apps, which surprisingly do not require root access to get rid of, which was a nice touch. I ran Antutu as well, and obtained a score of 28,016. This is about average for an MTK6592 device with 2GB of RAM and an FHD screen. In comparison, the Galaxy S4 gets about 26,000.

CAMERA. The THL 5000 features a 13MP camera with a Sony Sensor and F2.0 aperture. It focuses quite well and takes nice photos. Below are some pictures. As you can see, the quality of these pictures in daylight is quite good. Colour reproduction is quite accurate, low light picture quality is also great In conclusion, if you're taking pictures in the daytime, expect good smartphone pictures to come out of that. If you're in a dark setting, the picture quality is also great at close range. The front 5MPx front camera is quite good for use in Skyping and taking selfies. The first picture was taken in the day time and the second picture at night.

GAMING REVIEW. The THL 5000 is a very powerful smartphone. It would be important to point out that if you are into 3D gaming, the THL 5000 runs 3D and HD games flawlessly.. Firstly when i wanted to run a test on how it handles hd games, i installed Asphalt 8.(for those who knows, it lags on 1.2-1.3ghz mediatek quad core socs), i could remember back then when i installed asphalt 8 on phantom a+, the game was lagging, and i immediately uninstalled it.  .(the last time i enoyed the game was on a samsung note 3). Yeah, after installing asphalt 8 on the thl5000, i launched it and behold, the smoothness, graphics, was clearly seen. It also applies to other games, like fifa 14, batman, avengers e.t.c, they all played flawlessly. another thing is that the gaming graphics of this device its so clear and sharp. Below are some of the screenshots while playing HDgames on the phone.

VERDICT With the price of this phone at around ₦45,000- ₦47,000, on one hand, its relatively cheap, compared to the fact that it beats it mate TECNO PHANTOM Z, GIONEE S5.5,(MY OPINION) by some miles and its 5000mAh battery should sufficiently convince any heavy smartphone user to go for it. Its hard to find fault with the THL 5000 a massive battery, fast octacore processor, FHD(full high definition) screen and great reception make this phone a great buy. THL has promised to continue providing OTA updates to the phone, and hopefully THL will continue quashing bugs, improving performance and decrease battery consumption. 1 Like |

Go on.... I am interested... I am more concerned about the battery life and picture quality... Also, how is the music player? What about video recording? Since you have used both Tecno A+ and Thl 5000, do you think it would be wise to move from Chinese droid as bad as Tecno to another one? |

where to get this monster thl5000 Yeah, i call this a monster cos of its amazing specs and battery. We have competent phone sellers on nairaland and i would recommend. initialize OR Jeffy1206 OR elijahdre or tyconcepts I got my thl5000 from initialize at 46k, but i can always recommend those 4. |

s3nn2x: The ba3 life is really amazing, the phone has refused to die , the picture quality is really great also, the music player is the bomb with its quality sound effects and surround sound which was missing in my previous gionee m2, as for the video recording i don't ve anything to say about that but i believe it would be great, am not really a picture or video freak. So i dont perform all those camera or video activities much.Yeah, you can get the thl5000, though its a chinese brand, but its not as bad as people tag tecno android phones, btw Tecno has improved with with their phones now. And one last thing, the battery drop by 1% each till it finsihes, not like phantom a+ that jumps.. |

Peppul: Yeah, it has ota update under settings, i recently updated my thl5000 stock rom to v1.1.1 last week which is a treat to the hotness emerging from the previous rom version. I believe there should be an update to lolipop 5.0 soon. |
