Oyo State Workers Yet To Receive November Salary, Some October by pumpingmachine: 12:11pm On Dec 16, 2014
Civil servants in Oyo state are yet to receive their November salaries even as some say they are yet to receive their salaries for the month of October.

Some of them that spoke to IBPulse.com in the state government said the delay in the payment of workers’ salaries has become a regular experience among the workforce.

“We heard rumours that they have stated paying for November but so far no one that I know had received alert,” a staff working at the Oyo State Government Secretariat said.

This development is in sharp contrast to the claim of the state government that is paying the salaries of its workers on time. This delay also affects other cadres of workers including primary and secondary school teachers.

With the general elections fast approaching, some workers believe the delay in the salaries may be a way through which the governor’s political party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) is planning to raise funds for the elections.

“They will spend lots of money for the elections, and he may be required to be sending specific sum of money to Tinubu and other stakeholders in the party, this may be the reason why we are yet to get paid,” a civil servant said.

Attempts to reach the chairman of the state chapter of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) were futile however, workers in the state are appealing to the state government to promptly pay their salaries so they could happily celebrate Christmas and New Year with their loved ones.

“People are already anxious and agitating. We have a lot to buy for the festive period and our children are already waiting to know when we buy clothes, shoes and food for them. We are not asking for any favours, we just want our salary, it’s our right because we’ve worked for it,” another civil servant told IBPulse.com in Ibadan.
