Yesterday a Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to President, Reuben Abati published in his Twitter the exposing information from Wikileaks about Buhari’s 1983-84 governing years.

The information is provided by the Public Library of United States Diplomacy through Wikileaks

Like President Obasanjo before the 1999 election, General Buhari’s political experience is limited to that of military Head of State. Buhari came to power as a result of a 1983 New Year’s Eve coup against the democratically elected Shehu Shagari. The eviction of Shagari came as a welcome relief as did Buhari’s promise to root out corruption. That relief, however, was short-lived as Nigerians watched despairingly as the Buhari regime’s promises to revive the economy and wipe out rampant corruption withered during 20 months of heavy-handed, largely ineffective rule.

In May 1984, Buhari ordered the brutal expulsion of 700,000 illegal immigrants from neighboring African states, jailed hundreds of political opponents and muzzled a once aggressive press. His loyalty to the military also came into question as he dismissed 30,000 soldiers as a cost-cutting measure. Buhari also soured Nigeria’s relations with Britain, when he was accused of masterminding a clumsy and unsuccessful attempt in July 1984 to kidnap President Shagari’s brother-in-law, former Transport Minister Umaru Dikko. Moreover, Buhari undermined traditional rulers throughout Nigeria, slashing their benefits and questioning their authority.

I think PDP should check this guy, abati. If he is speaking for GEJ, then it is suspicious; its like they (GEJ and abati) are indirectly campaigning for the election of GMB.

Factually, all this stuff on socalled wikileaks (actually, abatileaks) is to the credit of GMB. That is all we are crying for. we need a leader that is decisive; that will protect our territorial integrity and ensure security; that will be considerate to the plight of ordinary Nigerians; that will reward corrupt people with the punishment they deserve instead of the current situation where corruption is always rewarded with plum state appointments, contracts and national honours.

THIS IS THE CHANGE WE DESERVE.

So where is the evidence of corruption? All I read is just a man so desperate in weeding out corruption, no matter whose ox get gnawed!.

Believe me if GEJ is half as desperate, draconian and obnoxious as GMB was, Boko Haram would have been nipped in the bud. When a man is too democratic especially in a country as stubborn as Nigeria, being democratic will no doubt metamorphose into ineptitude and laziness.

I keep seeing posters saying he overthrew a democratic elected government, what they fail to say or realize is that the government he overthrew was a very corrupt government and not elected but selected. More like he saved Nigeria then. Of course people are not perfect, he may have made mistakes along the line, but overall he was fair. Also looking at his list of governors and ministers, I see more Christians and southerners in his cabinet. Let us give this man a chance, PDP has done it the last 15 years and I will give them an F grade. My 2 cents.

have you ever hear the phrase or idiom "call the spade the spade"? calling a clueless and blind leader with the correct description is not only necessary but needful to make him/her realise that he/she is only fooling themselves, and not the helpless people they are cheating, left right and center.

A US ambassador cable released by Wikileaks details how American officials guided Goodluck Jonathan to take the reins of the presidency during Umaru Yar’Adua’s chaotic last days. Diplomatic cables made public by WikiLeaks show that the American ambassador to Nigeria, Robin Sanders, instructed Goodluck Jonathan on how to get rid of former INEC Chairman, Mr. Maurice Iwu. Using the threat that the United States government would not support future elections if Iwu remained the INEC chairman, the ambassador suggested that Mr. Iwu be placed on terminal leave.

In the chaotic period, Jonathan was doing everything to appease the North. He told the Americans that the Northern political leaders were uncomfortable with him as the man at the helm. Jonathan found comfort in the counsel of the former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, who acted as his go-between with Northern leaders.

Ambassador Sanders warned Jonathan steer clear of former President Olusegun Obasanjo. She stressed to Jonathan that in order to be an effective leader, he wass not to be seen as being directed by Obasanjo. Jonathan promised to take steps to separate himself from Obasanjo.

The most revealing part of the cable was the point where Jonathan confessed to his ineptitude, “I was not chosen to be Vice President because I had good political experience,” he said. “I did not. There were a lot more qualified people around to be Vice President, but that does not mean I am not my own man.”

Further, he said, “not a politician” and had very limited experience as an administrator".

Thank you for the love Dr Akinbinu Oluwarotimi....after reading your well-thought, heart-felt & comprehensive essay...I decided not to be carried away

like the others below your post but to sit down, think about it & have finally come to a conclusion...The picture of the "hero" you've painted up there

doesn't even exist in developed countries let alone Nigeria...Its such a pity that someone who's past stares at our very faces in history books is

the ONLY person we're endorsing for change...you talk like someone under a spell in your writeup...most of the allegation laid against him he has

countered only a few succesfully & discarded the others as lies which you readily believe. Despite the fact that Professor Wole

Soyinka openly criticized GEJ's govt he will not fly unwisely to the other side to support this man cos he knows what he's capable of...

Its only in a country like Nigeria someone will open his mouth & promise to make life miserable for another person, give him sleepless night &

vow bloodshed & such as one still come back to a "hero's welcome"by the same ppl he promised to massacre..in saner climes a protest would have

eruoted with ppl trying to stone such person but EUREKA! he is vying for the No1 citizenship of this country.....

And you go on to dangle his "ideals" as something i should crave a tenth of its value for...got me wondering if you ever knew the meaning of the word

itself & also makes me feel sorry for the future of the nation when a honourable working class citizen sees that as an ideal. Ideals of killing ppl to tarnish
another person's image so as to pave way for yourself....how low, manipulative & desperate can one get? A man whose ethnic & religious bigotry was

in shameless display at the last Presidential election saying muslims should vote muslims and openly bragging about not needing the SE votes

thereby eventually nailing his own political coffin ignorantly only for you to desire resuurecting it..

A man who massive corruption occured during his time as petroleum minister with $2.8 billion dollars missing & all he can say is he knows nothing

about it till date(irresponsible)..a man who served under the reign of a corrupt despot and said it point-blank that the said man wasnt corrupt yet you

compare that to someone who said #stealing isn't corruption...the loot recovered from the Abacha family is the talk of the whole world till date & we're

not done recovering it yet this man you're trying so hard to saint-paint followed your footsteps (or vice-versa) by calling him a saint..you talk of

skyrocketing school fees...theres no tenure that has not experienced such...even Obasanjo ppl are hailing tried it in his tenure & he failed...What do

you have to say about the 200% hike in LASU fees your "progressive" Fashola of APC executed? Was it not when elections were around the corner he

stylishly slashed the fees to gain your support? (Desperate & Manipulative). Why was Fayemi totally kicked out of Ekiti if he really is a progressive?..you
want to wave these off as "mere scandals" too? We Nigerians really need a divine-intervention on our memory cos our level of "forgive & FORGET" is

incredible!

The only Nigerian who ALMOST epitomized the person you created up there is the Late General Murtala Ramat Mohammed...who in actual fact

the idea of our Kaduna refinery was awarded by him and continued with Obasanjo when his life was cut-short...Buhari was no more the Petroleum

Minister a year before rounding up of things. All other refineries have no affiliate with him...

I'm not here to be bamboozled like others with yur nice work of poetry neither am I here to gain your attention which you seem to wish desperately I do

Of course I'm not here to massage your ego by telling a white lie but I will say it as it is with no hard feelings...

General Buhari is a man who claims peoples' laurels to himself to massage his deep-seated ego issues, boost his self-confidence & will do everything

within his power to satisfy such lust...he will see this country burn if he can be King of the ashes. Thank you.

My vote counts, whether for a loss or a win.

In 2011 I voted for Ribadu, and when the votes were counted at the polling booth, PDP had about 100 votes to ACNs about 30 votes. There and then, I knew a Jonathan Presidency was fait accompli.

If you concede defeat before the attempt, then what need is there for that process or activity?
Your thinking is what a failed government would always hope for. Their sycophants would vote them, while the huge number of those who abstain can be converted to fraudulent votes. In all, they get to retain their office.

I am telling you now that the opinion you hold is what a useless political class want you to have.

If we all have this notion, how do we move forward when the political leadership is determined not to change?
We are talking about 16 wasted years now, we need to ensure it doesn't become 30 wasted years later.

I can vividly remember that before Buhari overthrow Shagari things were better, lets forget all this ranting here, during Shagari regime I bought 14-15 cups of garri for 50kobo at ogbete market Enugu while in Buhari's, it was 10cups. Buhari might be good in military rule but not in this democracy, age is a factor on his side also Nigeria today is more vast than 80's. We need change actually but not Buhari, we need a youth at age of 30's-50's which why I support GEJ for his transformation.

@Datribune, north wants power back to them if we allow it Nigeria will not develop becos of Godfatherism

D level of shameless dishonesty & misinformation in ur post is amazing. If u really know d history of nigeria u will never say dat b4 buhari overthrew Shagari things were better. Infact if Shagari's govt is what democracy is about may nigeria never hav democracy. d sage Chief Awolowo foresaw d economic doom dat would befall d profligate & reckless NPN govt & warned d nation of d impending danger but was labelled a "PROPHET OF DOOM" by d NPN & its sycophants.
