A breeder friend in Asaba just lost his caucasian. When I asked what happened he said he was poisoned by tick powder.
I don't know how poisonous the ingredients are cos I don't use it but still, there's no harm in being careful.

Lovely. Sometimes the vets just can't help. U just gotta help urself. Thank God he's safe now.

An experience we all should learn from.

We can't just be waiting on the vet always.

Have ds first-aid medications at home.

Lost my dog same way. I fumigated the house and compound with Sniper. It was a great loss as we mourned him.

Actually i disagree with you. The vet saved this Lhasa's life by prescribing atropine- which in is an antidote to poisonous substances and chemicals, in case you did not know.

The problem with most dog owners in Nigeria is that they buy dog products without consulting their vets. That's not advisable and it isn't practiced in civilized societies.

As a responsible dog owner you should always ask for your vet's input before buying or changing to a new product. Dogs like humans have allergies depending on their idiosyncrasies, a vet that has been handling your dogs for a while should/would be familiar with each dog's peculiarity and might just be able to help you make an informed decision thereby saving your pet's life.
So what might be fine for Duke, might be injurious to Duchess!

Sorry about the loss of your dog sir. Sniper is a very toxic insecticide potent enough to kill humans let alone dogs. It is advised to never leave dogs in a vicinity where Sniper has been applied. Dogs die minutes to exposure to Sniper almost before any intervention can be made by a vet.

So many other insecticides are this potent and that is why a good vet would advise you to make sure your pets are away from the fumigated compound for at least 24hours after fumigation.

Drgbaks, ure a vet. So I can understand.

Personally, I don't use vets anymore. Cos most of them aren't reliable.

Now, technically speaking, would you advice your client to inject a dog himself?

My personal opinion tho...plus I respect u as a vet on nl.

Let's just leave it at that.

Thanks.
To answer your question, ethically, it is wrong for a vet to ask his/her client to inject a dog. Scientifically, it is also wrong because the owner can harm the dog while administering the drug. So no, i would not do that. Though, in a sense i can understand why this vet did.

I understand your reluctance to make use of the services of a vet but because you have had bad experiences with one, two, three or more vets should not make you lump/label all vets as bad/ignorant. There are vets out there, many actually who are concerned about keeping and making their pets as healthy and their clients as happy as possible. So don't give up on vets!

P.S: Thanks for the compliments. I'm humbled!

My 2cents!

Ticks can be very terrible when it comes to a dogs health cos they can rapidly multiply exponentially and become a big time problem. Personally i use azinthol together with dog shampoo cos the problem is most lf these dog shampoo claim their product helps to prevent ticks nd d likes but you still end up seeing it on them and it can be an eye sore. Azinthol can be slow to take effect but it does work and it has no side effect even when used on a puppy as young as 10wks as long as its dully diluted.
To end it all d most important is keepin ones environment as clean as possible cos hygiene is important to dogs to,and am open to other effective tick repellants if one comes up. My pack below*sheba(gsd-12months),rex(male rott-7months),tessy(female rott(3 nd half months)

This is my problem with high breed Dogs, they are too fragile, try it on Bingo and i bet you, it will survive. snipper killed one of our Gsd slant back many year ago. my Mum ignorantly and innocently dropped it on its body just to kill ticks. that was the end of the whole matter it died few hours after. there is these prticular liquid our vet Doctor prescribed for our dogs, he didnt prescribe sef, he bought it for us three years back cnt remember the name again but will ask him, it turns to white when you add it in water and has a very Offensive smell. we bath the dogs with the liquid and he also injected them a different drug against ticks. the injection was done ones, they were bathed with the liquid trice since then the dogs have been tick free.
