The last may not have been heard about the controversy trailing the educational certificates of the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2015 general elections, Gen Muhammadu Buhari (retd).

Following Buhari’s explanation in an affidavit submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that his certificates were with the military, some critics have been raising the dust, insinuating that the former head of state lied about the schools he attended.

Although none of the institutions the APC presidential candidate attended has denied his studentship, Wikipedia, an online encyclopedia, in a profile of the former head of state listed his academic and professional qualifications from schools at home and abroad. According to Wikipedia, Buhari joined the Nigerian Army in 1962, when he attended the Nigerian Military Training College which was renamed the Nigerian Defence Academy, (NDA)), Kaduna, in 1964. From 1962-1963, he underwent Officer Cadets training at Mons Officer Cadet School in Aldershot in England, United Kingdom (Mons OCS was officially closed down in 1972).

In January 1963, Buhari was commissioned as Second Lieutenant, and appointed Platoon Commander of the Second Infantry Battalion in Abeokuta, Nigeria.

From November 1963- January 1964, Buhari attended the Platoon Commanders’ Course at the Nigerian Military College, Kaduna. In 1964, he facilitated his military training by attending the Mechanical Transport Officer’s Course at the Army Mechanical Transport School in Borden, United Kingdom.

From 1965-1967, Buhari served as Commander of the Second Infantry Battalion. He was appointed Brigade Major, Second Sector, First Infantry Division, April 1967 to July 1967.

Buhari was made Brigade Major of the Third Infantry Brigade, July 1967 to October 1968 and Brigade Major/ Commandant, Thirty-first Infantry Brigade, 1970-1971.

Buhari served as the Assistant Adjutant-General, First Infantry Division Headquarters, 1971- 1972. He also attended the Defense Services’ Staff College, Wellington, India, in 1973.

From 1974-1975, Buhari was appointed Acting Director, Transport and Supply, Nigerian Army Corps of Supply and Transport Headquarters.

He was also made Military Secretary, Army Headquarters, 1978- 1979, and a member of the Supreme Military Council, 1978-1979. From 1979 -1980, at the rank of colonel, Buhari attended the US Army War College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, United States of America and obtained a Masters Degree in Strategic Studies.

The military is yet to officially issue a statement controverting the explanation made by Buhari about his certificates in his affidavit to INEC even as Nigerians are anxiously waiting to see how the unfolding scenario will play out.

You must be a "baby". The Nigerian Army have already said they are in possession of all the copies of his certificates. So what else?

Keep deceiving yourself. U think we all have reading comprehension problems right? The army said they have his records. Records are not the same as certificate as even students who drop out of a school or are expelled have their records with the school. The onus is on Buhari to ask them to release the records and prove he has the said qualifications. Because they might release the records now and we discover that there is truth to the allegation that he failed most of his courses in the army and was just aided along due to quota system.
Buhari shouldn't be afraid of then telling us where the original of his SSCE is. Because that is the crux of the matter. His failure to present the original of his certificate is why we are having this debate. If he had claimed it was lost or destroyed, he would have received the benefit of the doubt. But telling us it is with the military board shows the man lacks a grasp of how certificates work. Now the army has come to debunk the claim that they have then original. Don't be surprised if we find out that his records in the army archive is filled with sworn affidavits and no real copy of his credentials.

The report says he joined the NDA in 1962. There is no record of him having passed the GCE which is a pre requisite. The guy should provide the certificate if he has one or just quit the stage. He was probably admitted into the army on man know man basis. Now the chicks have come home to roost.

Without going on hyperventilation mode, you should know he will do that and you guys will be left with emptiness at the end of the day.

Then you'll start looking for another "not missing" stuff till election day and before you know it Mr. Clueless is back in Otuoke or jail.

there is a difference between ''a certificate'' and ''copies of a certificate''. The army says it is in possession of copies of Buhari's ''academic records'' and not his certificate. Academic records contain many document.

Constitution says he needs primary school leaving certificate.
Re: Buhari’s Certificates: What Wikipedia Says by ochejoseph(m): 1:34pm On Jan 04, 2015
Any Nigerian who whose brain is functional Knows the following

1. That it takes a Minimum of Six years in a secondary school or college to obtain a SSCE, NECO WASSCE and about 5 Years for Adult Education students or SS2 student to take the GCE

2. Now Our constitution say for you to aspire for the Office of the President you should have either the qualification Listed above or its equivalent ie NABTEC, School Testimonial or any evidence to show that you attained that 5 -6 year training

3. Now take a Look at GMB's CV in those days boys are kidnapped and conscripted into the Nigerian Army

he joined the army in 1962, and by 1963 he was already commissioned a Second Lieutenant ( this Usually take 6 grilling years)

4. The Honest question you should ask your self is a simple one, Whose certificate did Buhari present at the point of entry into the Nigerian army, or was he conscripted like many others with no certificate?

5 . The constitution is very clear on this matter

6. If APC knew Buhari had this deficiency and they still intend to present him for elections they should have Organised for him to sit for the Last Nov/Dec GCE his registration slip alone should have sufficed

No primary school cert, No SSCE or its equivalent is simply unacceptable!

But for the recent amendment to the electoral Act this fraud will have continued!

APC should simply Present another candidate or just Shut Up!!!

I heard from a reliable source today that him and Babangida were both given a written note by the then sultan of sokoto to be admitted into NDA. I will verify that tho.

The enemies of the masses of Nigeria are at work. Had it be Buhari is a new comer in to the public system of Nigerians state, all these noises about his qualification would have been a thing to take seriously. But this is a man who has all been a public servant in his youth to date.
Are we saying that Buhari have no school certificate which is the minimum requirement by the constitution for the office of the president.
Let us start looking at the issue on ground as it will affect the masses and better our society not about the qualification of a man who was once the head of state and commander-in-chief of armed forces of the federal republic of Nigeria.

APC e-fools doing what they do best editing wikipedia since 1900. INEC ll soon disqualify the old foolish general without certificate. Imagine general without credentials, little wonder Nigeria remained backward even with all our resources. And some animals still want us to maintain 1963 status in name of Change

How about all the schools he attended while he was in the army.
You should concerns yourself about how can we move this country forward, not about the certificate of a former head of state.
I don't see any issue on Buhari papers qualification.
