I actually thought the story should be discontinued due to the long break, coupled with the fact that the general atmosphere on the literature section is not encouraging. However, I can't ignore the requests of my dear followers to say something about the story.

The zeal for this particular story is no longer there, but of you really want me to complete it with a few updates, I'm game.

I'm planning on compensating my fans with a new story, but if you want 'unHOLY MATRIMONY' wrapped up first, let's get about ten posts on this page so I'll be sure you guys are still interested.

Chapter 57

Wande had no appetite for dinner. She only wanted to be left alone with her thought. She soon became lost in it as she starred un-seeingly at the garden, watching it covered in dusk. She wiped a lone tear off her cheek before it got to her lips. Who could have hinted Charles? She thought. One more reason not to forgive Tade, she decided.

She stood up and walked towards the small-sized in-door swimming she had installed recently. She had sat down here and watched the stars with Segun the day it was installed.

She was at the pool side, opening a camp chair when the word "baby" stopped her. She turned and looked back to find Segun leaning against the gate that separate the garden from the pool side.

"Hi," she greeted as he walked up to her, deciding to receive him as casually as possible.

Segun caught up with her, holding her to himself as she made to pull away from his warm embrace.

"What's going on?" He asked calmly, "is it Tade? Me? Charles?"

At the mention of Charles, her body froze. He caught on.

"Tell me about it, Wande."

Before she opened her mouth to utter any word, he pulled out a ring from his shirt pocket and held it.

"Marry me." He looked into her eyes, all watered.

"I can't, I really can't, Segun"

Segun smiled and held her hands, staring into her eyes even more passionately. "I have heard about Charles and the twi----"

At that instant, wande felt as if cold water instead of blood, flowed through her veins. Her head suddenly ached violently, the veins threatened to burst. Suddenly her feet became cold and heavy. she had practised with Teju the best way to break the news to him. They had both concluded it was better via email after she had aborted the baby, and left the shores of this country.

"Darling, you are a victim of circumstance. I can't stop loving you because of your situation."

The tears that had been threatening to fall finally flowed down her cheeks, she sobbed gently as he held her head, gently placing it on his broad shoulder.

"I love you, Wande."

"I love you too." She said amid sobs. Her small baby bump rubbing against him, Her heart pounding so hard she could barely get her breadth. Everything seemed wonderfully surreal.

With some degree of embarrassment, she looked into his eyes. "Who...how...who told..."

"Shush," he placed his left index finger on her lips, and held her with the other hand. "We'll get to that."

"Thank you." She whispered as they moved back towards the house.

He opened his third can of heineken for the night and took a long sip that brought the content half way. He had started drinking again. He started drinking heavily when his divorce became final and he lost his source of income. For him, every problem takes him back to his first love- the bottle.

Still holding the half can of beer, wondering what pushed her bff to tell him her deepest secret, Charles leaned indecisively on the banister and tried to fix his gaze at the door leading to the secluded part of the bar he had chosen to wait for her.

"Today is today." He muttered to himself.

Suddenly, he saw her enter the dimly lit bar, casting long looks at the occupied tables. Looking for him, he knew. She looked beautiful in her teal blue flowing cotton dress that suit the humid air better than the grey 'Atiku' he had bought with a large chunk of his last moth salary. Her weave hung beautifully over her shoulders. He clutched the tattered brown envelope that contained the hurriedly drafted proposed terms and condition he had paid the lawyer about two months salary to prepare. He had listed a long list of demands, his lawyer had read them out to her over dinner, during their first official meeting.

Something didn't seem right as he watched her approach. Yes, she had a man with her. "Hian" he hissed under his breadth.

Their eyes locked and she waved cheerfully at him. He watched in horror as she approached his table, her companion following closely.

'So much for a settlement meeting' he thought.
