Dear Seun,

Our very own Oga Seun. Christmas, New Year and Eid celebrations has come and gone. As a nation we have our general election staring us in the face. I am a man of few words. I will try as much as I can to pass my message.

I do not need to emphasize the role of the media in the forthcoming election and in our daily life. No doubt Nairaland is a leading online forum in Nigerian and in Africa. Nigerians in Nigeria and beyond the shores of Africa share views and opinions on this platform. Nairaland has provided the platform for some us to show our support and solidarity for one political party or the other. Some are here to share life issues, while others are for business. Some are in for jokes while others are for scams.

There are these categories of people who are experts in making inflammable provocative statements here in Nairaland that could trigger a fight or lead to ethnic/religious confrontation. What am not sure is if these guys have been well paid to make some of these statements. I respect the right for everyone to air their views even if it`s no popular but some statement could be threat to our existence as a people. Most of the users of this forum are commoners (average Nigerians) who are here to grab one information or the other. Most times instead of getting the right information, the innocents are misinformed and seed of hatred sown in them. How can we continue in this path and expect to move forward?

Almost all our elections are characterized with violent carried by these innocent commoners. Some of these commoners don’t even know why or what they are fighting for. They did not wake up in one night and start burning and killing people. They only need to hear or see some comments made by our politicians and their aids. There are no direct contacts with the politicians yet they carry out their bid because their comments have been taken to the streets where it is needed through the media. I am yet to find a child of an elite who has physically participated in the act of burning and killing after elections. They are well shielded from the streets. As a people whoever wins shouldn’t be a problem, there are several other peaceful ways to remove an unwanted or illegal leader. We can still use these tools. We stand to lose a whole lot if we allow violent of any sorts during this election. We all live together to sort our daily bread despite our different political views. We must stand to defend ourselves, we must stand to defend our children, we must defend our parents. We must all stand and defend our country.

As a member of Nairaland Forum, I hereby humbly request that you start a campaign of “VIOLENT FREE ELECTION” that will be on the front page of Nairaland till the end of the election. We want no war, we want no riot, we want no fight. All we want is a peaceful election. We are Nairalanders, we are Nigerians, we are peaceful people.

Thank you.

butl doubt if s party concern will let it manifest.

some ppk take delight in online battle but are actually a coward when it comes to fighting a real battle

You are giving Seun more than he can chew. How do you think Seun can help in stopping violence? By putting it on front page every day?
Re: Open Letter To Seun Osewa by luvinhubby(m): 4:43pm On Jan 07, 2015
Supported.
Such anti-violence thread should be opened by one of the mods, poltics one preferable, left permanently as the first thread on front page & the politics section, strictly monitored with any offensive thread deleted ASAP & poster banned till May 29th this year.

I dont mean Seun can single handedly stop violence. Trust me, messages put on front page goes a long way in making people change their view about certain things. I personally have read many stories here that have changed my view about some subject.

Majority of Nairalanders who bicker over Elections and Parties will hardly step out to voet and most have not PVCs.. only the poor masses and people offline go to vote.. your concerns are of no consequence hence no relevance or importance in the scheme of things.. elections will be run and won offline not online.

It seems like you are new on this forum.
Majority Onliners (Nairalanders) vote and stay put at the polling station to send updates. Before, INEC officially announce result, in most cases we already know who won. Are these Offliners? Are they ghosts? Are they not flesh and blood? are they not Nigerians. My guy I do not need to emphasize the role of mass and social medias in our day to day life.

The call may appear irrelevance to you but matters to many.
