Zimbabwe: Yar’Adua approves relief for refugees
From Juliana Taiwo in Abuja, 12.17.2008
Wednesday, December 17, 2008

President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua yesterday approved urgent humanitarian relief materials in support of South Africa ’s efforts to take care of the influx of Zimbabwean refugees and the outbreak of cholera.

The President disclosed the approval at a farewell audience with the out-going High Commissioner of South Africa, Mr. Bangumzi Sifingo , in State House.

He said, “the time has really come for Nigeria and South Africa to lead the way and be seen clearly giving immediate assistance to the Zimbabwean refugees.”

While steps are being taken to resolve the political stalemate in Zimbabwe , I believe we have a responsibility to do something to assist in humanitarian efforts before the problem spills out of control.” President Yar’Adua who said that Nigeria and South Africa had a responsibility to lead the African continent, called for improved strategies in order to forge closer bilateral relations.

He stressed the need for both countries to speak with one voice on international issues, noting that “once Nigeria and South Africa take a stand on any issue, it will be respected by all nations.”

In his remark earlier, Bangumzi who was departing Nigeria after nine years, briefed President Yar’Adua on the progress made at the Nigeria-South Africa Bi-National Commission, and next year’s summit of the body in Abuja.

He also conveyed his country’s request for Nigeria’s support for the humanitarian efforts his country had undertaken with regard to tackling the problem of Zimbabwean refugees in South Africa

What Yar'adua is doing is an investment. A time investment.

He know that Nigerian need it. He also know that zimbabwe is in dire need.

Someday, Nigeria may run into trouble, it won't be hard to appeal for international aids.

I am not controversial, I just believe strongly in stating my opinion and making sure you and those who read understand where I stand on issues, regardless of where you choose to. Nothing wrong with that as I don't believe I am tied to any other human on here or anywhere else. grin

Well, you do know that there is a narrow window here, after which I go back to my HERMIT mode. grin Better take the chance while you have it to meet me and maybe understand that I am not as controversial as you may think.

Thou shall not kill is not in your bible?. Did Jesus own a rifle while on earth?. You haven't that no weapon fashioned against the child of God shall prosper?. You are fashioning the weapon instead of being at the receiving end.

Really charity begins abroad!! Given the number of people starving in Nigeria daily, Dont you see that this is a way to give inflated contracts already.

Some people who are commending the move, I can remember IBB, Abacha doing the same to Liberia and Sierra leone.

OBJ doing the same for Ghana. Investments? When would these investments yield returns

You seriously lack understanding of the bible. Stick to politics abeg and i'm sure you don't teach in sunday school before you raise a generation of terrorists. Sword in the statement above is a figurative use of imagery and it has nothing to do with sword/spear. St paul even went ahead to explain the meaning of sword of the spirit. Is it that you lack understanding or just stubborn and love to argue?

Again, shield of faith does not mean the literal armor. Olodo!

Why should I be afraid of death when am sure I'll be going to heaven when I die?. I just don't like guns because nothing good comes from it apart from shedding blood. A christian should be armed with his/her bible and not guns.

Re: Yaradua Sends Relief To Southern Africa by Kobojunkie: 11:06pm On Dec 30, 2008
Guns serve many purposes. You can have one for decorative purposes. You can have one for domestic need eg. needing to shoot down that cat in the tree that keeps meowing at night. Or you can have one for the sake of it. The law is not against it. So??

I don't live in OH. Sorry to disappoint you!! For you all you know, I could be on some army base as we speak ! wink
