I wonder why some students in the faculty of education are always ashamed of telling their friends what they are studying..

Its not shamefully. I come from a long line of educators (Lecturers, PhDs, Teachers). Always proud of them.

Aside: That's why I am working on building something to help them in the classroom

That's because they don't have self confidence!.

I never hesitate to tell anybody who ask that I am a teacher!. Believe me the people who make mockery of teaching are the ones who don't value education. And I never fail to put them in their place should they bring that up with me.

It is the fault of ALL of us Nigerians that allow

- a LGA Councillor to get N300,000 salary.

- SINator & representaTHIEF to collect N27 million.

- even a pretending pensioner to receive N23 million

While we grudginly pay teachers N25,000. Even lecturer wey get PhD salary nor reach N150,000.

How can we make good progress as a nation under such anomaly

Is the senate and House of reps not controlled by almost 50% APCheat members

It's inferiority complex. Again, most students in the faculty of education didn't up there by choice. People forget that we all can't be lawyers and medical doctors.

Perhaps the major reason is the poor remuneration of teachers in Nigeria, which makes them second class citizens by default. However, I believe that lecturers' salary structure is improving now.

I'm a proud graduate of Education / English.

Has nothing to do with the fact that PDPïgs have misruled for 16 years and you want their continuity.

I am hoping you have a wide enough scope to appreciate the FACT that in a democracy the PARLIAMENT has considerable powers. Did APCheat not threaten to withhold passing of the budget over Amaechi last year

Moreover most of the PDP people, in fact the worstest rejects have become re-packaged born-to-gain saints in the appropriately named WASTE basket that APCheat is. That includes OBJ who spent eight of the 16 years as president and is now their highly solicited "navigator".
Nor so

Considerable, but the ruling party has the most power.

Moreover most of the PDP people, in fact the worstest rejects have become re-packaged born-to-gain born again saints in the appropriately named WASTE basket that APCheat is. That includes OBJ who spent eight of the 16 years as president and is now their highly solicited "navigator".

OBJ was a PDP member when he ruled and still is.

Who are your so-called worstest rejects?

Kwankwaso? He's a big loss to PDP and you know it.
Amaechi? If shepopotamus knew how to behave like a lady, he would have been in PDP.
Tambuwal? Another terrible loss for PDP.

Btw, being born again is a good thing.

So what are you saying my friend?

Don't blame them, some wanted a different course, thou majority is due to inferiority complex, peer influence and indecision because the truth is that 80% of Nigerian youths don't really know what they want or why they need to be educated. It's all about the certificate and the tag 'graduate'. Some give you silly excuse like "it doesn't sound tushed'undecided whatever that means.......
Thou for some people,it's the lack of courage to stand before a class while for some,it's the pay. Remember, for you to be a good teacher/lecturer,you must have the passion for it. It's not an easy job,it's the passion that keeps you going.

By the way,I am a lecturer and proud of my profession,I have taught in both primary and secondary schools. In the job,I find fulfillment. Infact I chose teaching since I was a child, even the mockery from classmates and friends didn't stop me but increased my passion for it. I went to FGGC Onitsha, anyone who went to a Federal school knows the kids got a whole lot of attitude...after school I decided to do my NCE (ENG/PES) first. My family was shocked but happy by that decision. My mum being a lecturer(Prof)supported me a lot. You won't believe that my classmates wouldn't pick my calls or want to associate with me anymore simply because I was in a College of Education undecided,to them,I have 'no class' because they see College of Education students as not being 'tushed' but that never bothered me,so, I let them be. When I got admission in UniAbuja,I was offered English but I asked for Primary Education( a course being mocked and despised by most people but I don't blame them because they don't understand).
60% of Education students don't like their course and majority for the wrong reasons but those who had the right reason and really know what they wanted,I encouraged them to write Jamb again, very difficult decision but two guys who listened to me are forever grateful for that because they finally did what they have the passion for. To cut the story short,I succeeded and still striving. Those same girls who saw me as low class, now want to be my friend. I had no Facebook account for a long time so they kept disturbing my brothers or cousins (because of the surname they see) so I signed up just to get in touch with them and some apologized for their behaviour but I tell them their attitude made me stronger and brought the best out of me.

So,it's best you go what you have a passion for and proud of even if you have to write jamb 10 times, tongue the choice is yours.

Right now in Nigeria if you don't have a degree in Education, you wont be able to head any higher institution (ie Vice-Chancellor, Rector, Provost etc)

Please leave them in their folly. smiley

Worst profession undecided undecided?

Hell to the NO!!

I aspire to become one.. Being raised in a family of educationists, the love/passion for teaching started @ a tender age..

It's a profession that:

...Would help me share an acquired knowledge with others, and in such process, inspire them, and also learn myself (Automatic Researcher)..

...Provides me with ample time/space to take good care of my home; husband, kids, & external family members..

...It helps build this relationship with kids (I'm a natural lover of kids)..

...It boost your confidence, Etc...
