Clark’s group asks Jega to resign

FEBRUARY 5, 2015 BY OLUSOLA FABIYI

Supporters of President Goodluck Jonathan has called for the resignation of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Attahiru Jega.

The supporters, under the aegis of Southern Nigeria Peoples Assembly led by Chief Edwin Clark, made the demand at a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday.

Among those at the briefing were a former Minister of Information, Walter Ofonagoro; a former Governor of Anambra State, Dr. Chuwuemeka Ezeife; a former Commissioner in Bayelsa State, Chief Whisky Ayakeme; Dr. Cairo Ojugboh and Sen. Femi Okunronmu.

Members of the group, who are staunch supporters of President Jonathan, also demanded the postponement of the February elections.

They accused Jega of conniving with northern leaders to rig Jonathan out of office.

They threatened that elections won’t hold in southern part of the country if the commission should decide to go ahead with the scheduled elections.

So where does it state that Ekwueme was one of them? I am not surprised these people are are calling for postpone because they are all beneficiaries of the government, but I would be surprised to see Ekwueme doing the same because I believe he is a man of integrity.

fool, you are insignificant and your opinion don't count. not even in this forum. Beside he never said he was taking a position coz of the SW.

I love the way APC supporters are showing strong confidence on the forthcoming election. It means that they actually believe that their votes will count. That's incredible improvement from 2003 & 2007 elections that OBJ organized, in which their votes didn't count. In other word, votes count nowadays because GEJ has delivered on electoral system. People should learn to appreciate their leaders.

he wasn't speaking for you. he was saying the truth as he sees it. if election is conducted today GEJ will be declared winner that is a fact. We just want things to be done right.

please answer this honestly, will you like to work as an INEC official at say.. bama LGA? with the insecurity? be honest.

We don't have to rush things when we have enough time to do things right. My brother here in Lagos have not collected his PVC but he voted in 2011. INEC can't find it. We can even restructure the election in such a way that election in the NE will hold in a different day. We just have to look at things with patriotism. we know some persons feel the election is already won and lost. it's not true.

Let me tell you, the closer this election is to May 29 , the safer.

be wise.
