President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday said despite the various challenges facing the country, Nigeria’s situation was not that bad.

Jonathan spoke while granting audience to a delegation of the Yoruba Council of Elders, led by Gen. Adeyinka Adebayo, at the State House, Marina in Lagos.

The President said he always felt bad when people made statements suggesting that the nation’s situation was the worst in the world.

He said it was wrong for anybody to define Nigeria by the activities of members of the Boko Haram sect.

He then expressed confidence that with the strategies already put in place by his administration, the story of Boko Haram would change in the next two weeks.

Jonathan said, “My position is that let us all collectively defend and protect this country and that is why I always feel bad when people make statements that expose Nigeria as if it is the worst country on earth. We are not that bad.

“Yes, we have issues in this country. Even issues of security, like this Boko Haram, because we are managing a very delicate situation.

“Sometimes people define Nigeria by the Boko Haram.

“Nigeria cannot be defined based on Boko Haram alone. There is terror all over the world.

“We have unfair share of the terror. But luckily with what is happening now, I tell people that in the next two to three weeks this story will change.

“Because we have got the equipment that we can withstand the excesses of the Boko Haram.

“That is why these few days, you will see that the movement, we don’t want to say much, is going on gradually.

“My belief is that in the next three weeks or so if we don’t completely take over all our territories, we would have handled the Boko Haram to the extent that it will no longer be a problem to the elections that will come up.”

Jonathan also warned public office seekers across all political parties to always put the country first.

“No matter what we want to do, that is those of us who are aspiring to run this country or even at the state level, first and foremost you must have a country.

“If we don’t have a country, there will be no office to hold; whether it is the office of the President or office of the Vice President or office of the minister or whatever office, there must be Nigeria first,” he said.

Jonadunce is a man whose heart is unimaginably evil. Thousands of Nigerians have been killed under your watch in the past 5years and you did nothing till weeks before election.

The blood of those who have died due to your ineptitude will haunt you and your illiterate and obese wife.

Sir, the question is why are you so sure the situation will change within two weeks? Is it because election is around the corner? What military strategy is now in place that was not in place for the last five years? Note that over the past five years, all our neighbours and even hunters and civilian JTF have all recorded some level of victories over boko haram except the Nigerian Army. So your optimism of victory cannot be because our neighbours have now officially joined the fight against boko haram.

If you are so confident that the situation will change (hopefully for the better), it means the Nigerian Army have always had the capacity and competence to deal decisively with boko haram but were incapacitated by "orders from above". So this means your administration presided over the killing of 1000s of Nigerians and brave members of the Nigerian army owing to failure of your government to eliminate boko haram for over a period of 5 years even though we have the capacity - as you are now assuring us - to do it in 2 weeks.

Nigerians have noticed, and will make our decision known on the 28 of March.

Thank you

Re: Boko Haram Story Will Change In Two Weeks – Jonathan by Boss13: 10:19pm On Feb 19, 2015
Sir, you gave Boko Haram a larger than life attitude, from a group of disgruntled religious bigots to a terrorist menace inflicting pains, causing death and displacing people from the homes and source of livelihood.

On several occasions, Nigeria had to be the focus of international news as a result of Boko Haram. A group that was poorly organized turned out to be properly structured with hierarchy. Over time we got conflicting news of helicopters making supplies at the dead of the night. It is also surprising the sophistication and weaponry the terrorist group display and on the other hand, the outdated guns given to soldiers to curb the insurgents. Sometimes I ask myself who supplies Boko Haram weapons and how are they funded? Who sponsors the group and why can't they be traced? Because every organisation whether business or non-business requires funds to survive and for over 6 years these wicked ideologists continue to wax stronger.

Sir, I remember a case vividly of soldiers being ambushed and killed because their location was disclosed and an army general seems to be the only one with communication tools within Borno vicinity. I also remember soldiers complaining of their commander ordering them to retreat while in hot pursuit of fleeing insurgents. At that time, Boko Haram was just public nuisance and could have been wiped out. Within months, it seems the reverse was the case, Boko haram, a group which our riot policemen could tame, now pursue our soldiers and evicted them from the barracks. To me, it appears to be a game of cat and mouse.

Sir, it is of public knowledge that sambisa forest is the strong hold of Boko haram. Another striking question is - why have they not being any offensive attack in that location? The forest is not the garden of Eden which is yet to be found. If the excuse was because of the safety of the chibok girls, why attack now - the girls are yet to be rescued. Sir, if you say because logistics and weapons were not provided then, what was the delay ever since and why should over 50,000 lives pay for a sin they did not commit or 1.3million people displaced from their homes?

Sir, your pronouncement is nothing special. Boko haram should never had stayed with us this long. All of a sudden our military is now highly moralized and courageous to enter into sambisa. A feat they could not do in 6 years. What brought about this courage, especially now that Nigeria is about to decide their president, is left for you to answer. We have seen how the military from neighboring countries inflict pains on the sect and even laugh at the cowardice of our military.

Sir, to conclude, I wish to presume that this is nothing but a script. A script which have cost lives and very expensive to the sovereignty of our country. A script which has politicized our military and divided the country on ethnicity ground. A script that will continue to display you in bad light in our history book. Whether Boko Haram is eliminated in your 6 weeks target plan or 2 weeks, the scars till remains, the dead will never return, those kidnapped, raped, displaced from their homes may never remain the same - that will we never forgive whether you still remain president or not.

God save Nigeria
