President Jonathan’s Delay In Fighting Boko Haram Explained by viashimakelly: 2:44pm On Feb 24, 2015
Many questions have been asked on why President Jonathan and the military waited this long to solve the issue of Boko haram. Those that ask such questions are asking out of ignorance or the fact that they refuse to accept the truth.
Let me try to explain some reasons for this delay and where we are today.
• The military was compromised by the sympathizers of this dreaded group. Information about the operations of the military was leaked; sometimes the commanders even order the soldiers to fall back on sighting the insurgents and leaving their ammunition.
• The federal government tried to use the same system they used to defeat militancy on Boko Haram but it proved abortive.

• When the federal government launched a full attack on the Insurgents, some Northern elders especially Buhari alleged that they were killing their brothers; some even said that it’s a fight against the North. Ihejirika the then Chief of Army staff was accused of killing innocent people by the same people, they also threatened to drag him to ICC (International Criminal Court).

• Nigerian military was grossly under-equipped because of the neglect of past governments, since the 1980’s during Shagari’s tenure and the corruption in the purchase of ammunition.

• These delayed the flushing out of the insurgents and the fact that BH stepped up their attack in 2013, using sophisticated weapons.

• Jonathan’s government went back to the drawing board and decided to purchase sophisticated weapons and to re-organise the military and to discipline saboteurs among them.

• The United States of America refused to sell weapons to Nigeria, and also blocked some other countries like Israel from selling to us. Nigeria then turned to Russia after failing for months to convince western countries, especially the U.S., to supply us with arms

• South Africa also seized millions of dollars meant for the purchase of arms, and the case is still in court.

• President Jonathan requested for one billion dollars to properly equip the military but the senate/ House of Reps refused to approve the request.

• Inspite of these numerous draw backs Nigerian government was able to get weapons from Russia, China, and Pakistan. This included T55 armoured tanks, bullet/bomb proof APCs, JF17 thunder Jets, assorted guns etc; recently

• These being on ground, the troops under went trainings on the use of this weapons and how to fight these insurgents and some are still undergoing training.

• The rate of success achieved, several organizations and countries have pledged their support to fight the insurgents E.g ECOWAS, AU, UN, Congo, Equatorial Guinea etc.

• This shows the great efforts the President and his government have put in place to root out insurgency in our dear country.

• From the records as of today, many towns previously held by Boko Haram have been liberated and residents returning to their homes.

The explanation is just for positive minds cos APS-shit and their cohorts will still find faults with it.

They only pick on the negatives while ignoring the positive side of any story.

Its so bad to have desperate and disgruntled elements who seek power by all means as opposition. They will always be selfish and deceitful.

Re: President Jonathan’s Delay In Fighting Boko Haram Explained by Nobody: 5:08pm On Feb 24, 2015
Your reasons are good but the biggest reason for the success in the Boko Haram fight is:

The acceptance of Chad, Cameroon and Niger to join the war. They refused to join the war previously hoping that Boko haram will spare their countries. Therefore, whenever Nigerian military tried to fight BH to the end, they would retreat into our neighbouring countries, regroup and return to Nigeria to reign more terror. This move started to take a toll on Cameroon who then tried to fight them. In order to prevent the same happening to Chad and Niger, they decided to join the war. This to me, is the sole reason we are gaining on Boko haram now. Boko haram members are now trapped in Nigeria. Even the great United States cannot win such a war without cooperation from its neighbouring countries.

OP forgot MJTF

We needed the support of our neighbours to effectively check BH. BH is a cross boarder insurgent group

this support only came recently
