Coming from a guy who open a thread about LCC not giving him complete change at the toll gate says a lot. Strange.

bro, dis has nothing to do with d issue been discussed here. If u worked for ur money, then u will not want anybody to cheat u even N50 out of ur money. There is difference btw u tipping someone n someone cheating u. That is a bad mentality we have, if ur bank deduct N100 frm our acct., we take it as a normal thing.

You missed the point completely bro, I don't also allow cheating even for little amounts, although I know when to draw the line and how loud to shout. His claim of being a major employer who is eager to pay a high wage informed my statement. Most employers of labour want to pay as low as they can and yet want you to work your ass out. No business organization thinks of herself as a charity organization to help you solve your problem. He just did not sound as a business man to me. I concur that I may be wrong though.

Sometimes taking a salary cut is definitely the right career move. Here are five situations
where that is the case.

1. You Just Need Work

If you’re out of work and you need money to pay the bills, it’s better to take a lower-paying job than to have no job at all. “There are fewer jobs out there and you may not only have to take less money, you may end up having to take less job,”

2. You Move into a New Industry

When a job change forces you to take your expertise to a new industry, you may have to accept a lower salary. The same applies when you take your industry knowledge to a different company area.

For example, if you sold software to human resources departments and you take a new position selling software to medical offices, you’ll lose your industry expertise but keep your functional expertise. If you move from sales to operations, you’ll lose functional expertise, but keep your industry expertise.

3. You Change Careers

Some laid-off workers will find their next job in a completely new field. “If you do that, you’re going to have to take a pay cut because you typically aren’t worth as much in your new career path as you were in your old career,” Courtney says.

4. The New Job Makes You Happy

Having a job that satisfies you is far more important than how much you earn, says Maggie Romance, director of organizational development for Pima Community College in Tucson. She found happiness by trading a six-figure job putting out HR fires for a hospitality corporation for her current, lower-paying position doing staff professional development. “If you find the right match, the money doesn’t matter as much,” she says. “It’s about the happiness.”

5. To Keep Your Current Job

Forced to choose between taking a pay cut or losing your job? Take the pay cut and start a job search. Employers typically prefer hiring someone who’s employed to someone who’s not.

Perform well despite your lower pay, and you’ll build a case that supports giving you a raise when the economy recovers. “It may take two jobs and a recovered economy to get all the way back to that higher salary, but you can at least make a significant leap toward it if you perform outstandingly,” Zwell says.

Moving On

Once you’ve agreed to work for a lower salary, issues will arise. If you have to do the same job for less, your first challenge may be emotional. Accepting a lower salary can be difficult if you hang your self-worth on the size of your paycheck.

Instead of thinking about salary as a measure of your worth, think of it as what the market is willing to pay for your skills, knowledge and experience at this point in time, Zwell recommends.

The new, lower salary will also become a part of your salary history when you apply for your next job. When salary history questions arise, answer honestly. “No one needs to apologize for the fact that they made a lot of money before,” Courtney says. “If you were in a field that was negatively affected by recessionary events -- say you were an investment banker at a large firm and now you’re at a small firm -- it’s expected and accepted that you would take a pay cut.”

And remember that time heals at least some paycheck wounds. “In prior recessions, there are a couple years where salaries become depressed, then they get back up to the norm within a year or two after the recession ends,” Courtney says. “While you may not make up the whole gap between what you were making and what you are now making, you will end up closer to where you were than where you are now.”

I WILL ADVICE YOU TO TAKE IT. MY FIRST SALARY AFTER YOUTH SERVICE IS 45,500. I was retained nd am still there (1year after service). it is beta to have someplace to go to every morning nd return home every evening rather than your neighbours leaving their house keys with you or asking you to bath their children when they return from school all cos you are jobless and too greedy to take the option u have.

The experience you gather in any work u do will boost ur C.V to help u get a beta job

idleness can be frustrating and can cause depression. If u have nothing worthwhile doing, then i will advice u accept the job

but u must take some things into consideration

1. How far is the place frm ur house, so u dont spend d larger % of d salary on tp and u will left wit almost notn after working ur as.s off for a whole month.

2. Is der is chance any chance of promotion or gettin bigger in dat job

3. If d job doesnt offer a bright future, then does it give u some 'free' time to look for a better one.

If the job doesnt offer any of the above, then i will advice u brainstorm on smth u can do(smth u can sell with little capital or service u can offer to pple arnd u) to feed ursef while looking for a better job.

The parochial of an average employee seeking for employment opportunity anywhere is same as the mindset of an average Nigerian toward our country . We are always asking the wrong question .

@OP

The question you should be asking yourself is " what can I offer an employer that can make its business to grow better and bigger than I will be meeting it " . When you start to ask this kind of question and be proactive in implementing the correct answer , believe you me a start-up salary offered to you no matter how paltry it is , will soon be multiplied in multiple folds by the same company , in no distant time and you will equally be elevated to the echelon of such organization and be inducted in the board of the company - All these goodies can be made possible when you as an employee start to ask the right question and be proactive in implementing the correct answer .

In summary , I have to assume the company offered to you the stated salary because of its revenue . To own and operate a company is not an easy task . Cost of logistics and personnel alone is something else .

This same important question is also what every sincere and discerning Nigerian should be asking ; What can I do for my country to better its fortune in all ramifications . When we all start to ask this kind of question and answer it correctly and implement the answer holistically , our country will become a better nation everyone will be proud of .

You are sure a lazy fellow. My little life experience- After my NYSC, I painstakingly accepted to start working in a firm where i was receiving 12k as my monthly salary. No allowance, jst that 12k only. i did the work for close to 7 months when i received favour from one of the company 's customer, who assisted me secure another new job that earned me 35k.
The experience i got after my one year in the job, gave me an edge to be employed at where i'm currently working and my salary has sky-rocketed beyond my imagination.
My reason for sharing my little life experience is for you to know that you must start from the scratch before you can gradually get to the top. You can refer same to some of our prominent men we have in the society how they all started.

The first to comment has said it all, but let me ask
How long have you been unemployed?
What job experience do you have aside serving our father land?
Do you have plans of settling down
Do you plan to further you studies
Are you tired of sleeping, eating and waking up?

The fundamental key to success is action.
Yes, 35k is reasonable for a graduate with no work experience.

Unemployed for about two weeks, cause i just finished NYSC with the batch A that passed out just last month,
Just teaching experience, i would have gotten a better offer if i had an experience.
