I have noticed that interest of people in our culture has taken a nose dive, no one is interested is our culture anymore, am guilty of this as well.

I remember when I was younger, in my remote village in ekiti state, we do celebrate egungun festival like it is another Christmas, dancing and eating, and d masquerade would display their powers, some disappear and reappear, Some has to be held by chains e.t.c. it was fun watching them.

my mom told me of a story of a 90 year old woman that walks with walking stick but wen it is time for her festival, the deity takes over her and she could use her heel to dig a pit of like 3 feet and draw out a sword or snake or visually anything from It. this culture died d day she left this earth.

Another case is a festival in which a maiden is made to fetch water for a particular stream and it is just a small calabash but it can't be lifted by 8 hefty men but only d maiden and she is to be held by 6 men, she carries the water on her head without any support and it can neva fall down, after giving d deity d water she would sleep for the minimum of 3 days. This sweet practise is no longer here.

in 2005 wen I was in lautech, weneva there is osun osogbo festival I would have to cancel my journey cos there wont be space to move. I remember I trekked from market to ogbomoso park cos of osun osogbo. well I haven't heard about it in a while.

other countries turned their culture to tourist attraction, in Malaysia, Solomon Islands( where dey surround a tree and den curse it and d tree would wither)

is there any way to keep the small culture left before westernization takes over everything.
I bet my future kids might neva set their eyes on eyo( lagos masquerade)
this could be a form of saving our beloved country from economic meltdown.

what are the cultural things u have seen and how can we maintain its existence

nb; I am a medical doctor I didnt study english
