TWENTY SECONDARY SCHOOLS SET TO BATTLE FOR FAGUNWA LITERATURE PRIZE

Twenty secondary schools both public and private schools are ready to battle for this year Yoruba Literature award recently named in honour of the Late D.O. Fagunwa, a foremost Yoruba Writer and reknowned author of Aditu Olodumare, Igbo Olodumare, Ireke Onibudo, Irinkerindo Ninu Igbo Elegbeje and Ogboju Ode Ninu Igbo Irunmale.

Category of the awards are as follows: Fagunwa Prize for Yoruba fiction , Adebayo Faleti Prize for Yoruba Play, Afolabi Olabimtan Prize for Yoruba Essay and Akinwumi Isola Prize for Yoruba Poetry.

Winners of each prize will be announced on the 21st of March 2015. There are lots of consolation prizes ready to be won alongside Certificate of Participation, Certificate of Achievement and Merit will be givn to winners and outstanding students.

Yoruba Literature Prize is an initiative of the Society of Young Nigerian Writers and Egbe Odo Onkowe Ede Yoruba aim at improving and promoting Yoruba Language, culture and Literature.

FOURTH EDITION OF FAGUNWA DAY SET TO HOLD ON 21ST OF MARCH 2015

Fagunwa Day is the brainchild of the Society of Young Nigerian Writers. Now in its fourth edition. This year’s edition will be done through a new outfit (Fagunwa Literary Society) of the Society of Young Nigerian Writers solely dedicated and committed to Fagunwa’s School of Thoughts.

2015 edition of the programme promises to be an avenue for showcasing works of the late sage (D.O. Fagunwa) and Yoruba Language and Literature.

Prominent and Important personalities in Yoruba Literature and Language are expected to grace the occasion. The programme comes up on the 21st of March 2015 at the Art Theatre of the University of Ibadan at exactly 11:00am.

Twenty invited secondary schools are ready to participate in this 2015 edition. Fagunwa Day is a literary day set aside in honour of D.O. Fagunwa. And to test the abilities of secondary school students in the area of Yoruba Literature and Language. Other aims are to encourage writing and reading in Yoruba Language among some selected schools and to give out awards, recognition and reward outstanding young writers of Yoruba expression and promotion of reading culture.

SYNW SET TO INAUGURATE ABUBAKAR IMAM LITERARY SOCIETY

The Society of Young Nigerian Writers will on the 21st of March, 2015 inaugurates a new literary Society called Abubakar Imam Literary Society which is aim at promoting Hausa Language and Literature in the Northern region of the country.

Abubakar Imam Literary Society is an initiative of the Society of Young Nigerian Writers aim at promoting Hausa Language and Literature through the Literary works of the Late Abubakar Imam, a foremost and renowned Hausa Writer.

The eight points agenda of the society are 1. Pita Nwanna Day (An annual event in honour and memory of the late writer) 2. Pita Nwanna News: An online and printed Journal on the earthly life and works of the Late Pita Nwanna 3. Pita Nwanna Database of Igbo Writers 4.Pita Nwanna Wall chart posters on Igbo Culture and Traditions 5. Pita Nwanna Literature Prize for Igbo Writers 6. Pita Nwanna Academy – The Workshop arm of the Pita Nwanna Lierary Society 7. Pita Nwanna Annual Lecture on Igbo Literature and Language 8. Pita Nwanna Readership Series.

The inauguration shall take place at the Niger State Library board by 1:00pm

One of the areas of African/Nigerian Literature where Nigerian authors failed to thread is the promotion of their local languages. In order to achieve its major aim of promoting indigenous languages and Literature in Nigeria, the Society of Young Nigerian Writers is set to inaugurate PITA NWANNA Literary Society. Pita Nwanna Literary Society is an initiative of the Society of Young Nigerian Writers aim at promoting Igbo Language and Literature through the literary works of the Late Pita Nwanna, a foremost and renowned Igbo Writer.

The Members are: Mr. Kola Eweniyi of Accord representing Iwajowa State Constituency and Mrs. Fatimat Raji, representing IDDO State Constituency in the forthcoming Oyo State House of Assembly elections. Please kindly cast your votes for any one of them if you reside in their constituencies – Wole Adedoyin – National President.

All SYNW members in ANA (Association of Nigerian Authors) are adviced to pay their Annual dues and contest for any position they like in ANA’s forthcoming National election. Further directions will be communicated to you later. This is the only way we can fight for our rights as young writers. Remember that the Society of Young Nigerian Writers is the first indigenous young writers body in Nigeria and the largest in Africa.

All SYNW members across the 36 states of the Federation should go out and collect their permanent Voters Cards and vote for any candidates of their choice at their constituency, state and federal levels. Let us all shun tribalism, radical thuggery, and discrimination of any candidates. As for the presidency, vote for any candidate who is literarily inclined and ready to support creative writing in the country.

YOUNG NIGERIAN WRITERS SUPPORT FUND

This fund is an initiative of the Society of Young Nigerian Writers and the West African Young Writers and Publishers Association aim at enhancing, honing, nurturing, promoting and publishing works of Young Writers between the ages of 10 and 35 years residents in Nigerian and West Africa region.

PURPOSE OF THE FUND

For publishing works of upcoming writers in Nigeria and Africa
For organizing Workshops, symposia, seminars, conferences and for a aim at enhancing and developing their skills
For organizing literary competitions, contests and quiz aim at testing their abilities and grooming their literary minds
For organizing literary awards and recognizing those who have contributed enormously to the growth and development of literature in the country and in Africa as a continent
