Ever wondered why Buhari wins all the online polls? Here is what I think-

I think its because the bulk of the populace that actually know what's going on in the country are the ones that have access to the internet and know how to use it, hence the overwhelming support for the opposition online. We've seen Buhari sweep polls conducted by even AIT and GEJ's aids...Surprising huh?

Why doesn't this necessarily replicate itself when it comes to the poorest of the poor?

Most...yea most Nigerians in our numerous villages that constitute the bulk of the country don't have access to the internet...or can't use it. At best they are stuck with NTA and the network news on radio...I need not state how one-sided the news here can be. Furthermore, these people(some of my friends and relatives included) are predominantly illiterates so might not have the ability to rate the Government's performance objectively, hence their inclination to vote along ethnic/religious line rather that the capability of the candidates.

...so next time you see 400 like in 3 minutes for the opposition, don't wonder if persons have multiple accounts and can switch between 50 of those accounts in 3mins just to click like...nt feasible right? well I thought so too.

These persons are just the majority of enlightened Nigerians trying to salvage whatever is left of our once great country before it is too late.

"If you try, you might fail, but if you fail to try, you've failed already".

Now you know why Buhari wins the polls online.

OP, your opinion is spot-on!

In addition, majority of Nigerians in diaspora are more passionate about a change in government because they have seen what good governance means. They are better informed to understand that Nigerians deserve far more than the crumbs they are fed with. It is unfortunate that those who are actually suffering bad governance are the ones who are easily swayed by the offer of "porridge" to continue wallowing in their miserable living conditions.

GEJ won most of the online polls prior to 2011 and the actual result reflected those polls. Isn't it now laughable that Jonathanians would now want us to believe that the same online polls are no longer a reflection of the people's wish this time around. Denial is a first stage in failure but after a certain period, they will come to terms with the result.

And the claim about multiple ID's is only an imagination of TANoids because it is practically cumbersome if not impossible to operate two accounts here flawlessly. It is one account linked solely to an email address. So, to have three accounts, you need to have three separate email addresses; how much more 20 or 50 as claimed by the TANoids!

Weldone.... Don't forget to comeback and explain why Buhari won the election on march 29.

Going by your analysis, you agreed the educated intellectuals knows Jonathan is a failure and there by going for Buhari.

Also, you said the uneducated ones vote along ethnic/religious line. Going by that, Buhari will still win, the SS and SE has the lowest number of electorate while the NW, SW, NE, NC has more electorate. By that stat who wins?
We have more muslim than christian in the country also.

I 'm always amazed when Jonathan's supporter try to defend him but end up castigating him grin

I don't agree with you. Am from southwest Ogun state to be precise. an average village youth in southwest plays soccer betting on their phone. techno phone of 3k can access internet . so don't think internet is a biggy anymore unlike 2011. With 100 naira I can browse for a whole day on my 3k china fone.

Exactly my point. Football you say right?

Do they understand why the naira they are betting has lost value?

Do they understand the workings of our economy?

Do they understand why polity have heated this much this year unlike the previous elections?

Its one thing to browse, its another to know what to browse.

Yea...consoling those who think they are going mad cos they don't understand why the support for the opposition is this much online.

They are not mad...they are just seeing the manifestation of the efforts of rational minds.

Online Polls are credible sample of what is on ground. With the situation on ground, most people abroad has sent a good signal home that
people at home should not expect a dine from them any more once they vote in the wrong hand again. That is they have decided to continue to wallow in poverty if this government returns.

March 28 is 11 days from now, i can tell u without biased mind that PDP/GEJ are as good as history.it will be easier for a camel through the pin hole for GEJ to win.

they don't need to tell you they understand, underestimate them at your own peril. This is 2015 not 2007 or 2011.

I don't know about other regions o. but in southwest villages even the farmers have access to internet.

I agree with the OP...

Just that lately, the vast minority are now informing the others (illiterates) on how it all should be and trust me a lot of the populace are well informed about how good goverment should be, they are smarter now...

Everyone wants CHANGE....

well, i believe those with the internet information are sons, daughters and relatives of the so called poor and illitrate in the village... hence, i believe wat happens online has a fair share on these people too

a point of note!!
if this governmnent was at leaat fair enough... internet should be at every pit and hole in this country... so blame the govt...

The Op raised some valid points, but he must realise public enlightenment is rising at a very fast rate, due to several factors like more private radio stations established , more people having access to other tv stations apart from NTA via cheap Gotv, startimes satellites, cheaper internet phones, a very fast growing internet penetration& cheaper internet subscription . The consequence of all these means the difference between Online sentiments and offline sentiments is thinning out

If you considered the demography of Nigeria and the population skewing. Based on your analysis however, you have already shot yourself in the foot that government agencies and news media greatly influence the rural poor. This group of iliterates as you have referred to them as (which to me is baseless and without adequate proof) constitute the bulk of our populace and surprisingly these are the same people that take elections more seriously and cast their votes.

Lol. I'm sure he was too hasty and didn't read the entire piece.

You are absolutely right on your position. A bulk of the people with access to the internet are educated folks who can add numbers together and get the right answers. They are less swayed by mundane considerations like religion, ethnicity and inane propaganda from AIT, NTA and Radio Nigeria when taking decisions, hence are less likely to support the retention of the status quo that has had very unpalatable effects on the general population.

It is the reason why a guy like myself would never, even in my wildest fantasies, imagine taking sides with this administration. Its failures are there for all to see. The most disgusting is that it would never accept responsibility for any of them.

I don't really think we've gotten to that point where internet penetration makes a real dent on the opinion of illiterate and rural dwellers as regards politics and governance. I think the bags of rice and packets of maggi still have greater impact.

Yes, bags of rice and goodies might still have greater impact, but that they are rural dwellers does not means they are daft, they can remember oil subsidy removal, they also have greater access to private radio stations who give fair reportage of state of the nation. Trust me, many are also learning to collect goodies and vote their mind.

Guys, the OP is spot on!! Welldone TheLeader!!

What he is trying to say is that;

(1) PDP/GEJites should stop deceiving themselves that the online polls are being tampered with! They are not! Instead of them to wake up and seriously analyse why their online popularity is declining, they are crying foul!! Even when they organise THEIR own polls they are trounced!!

(2) The OP is also saying that the online polls will NOT be a reflection of the actual results!! This is TRUE! They are an "indication" of things to come but just because GMB gets say 3 times GEJ's votes online doesn't mean it will be the same "3 times" votes in reality. But it shows GMB is taking it! After all, let's not forget that GEJ ALSO WON ONLINE POLLS IN 2011!! Now, GEJites are quick to discard them! grin

(3) People that shout "Elections are not won online" are right!! But that is why the APC/GMB grassroot game has been upped! They have learnt from the Fayemi case (that is a story for another day sha, possible rigging and all). See ehn, people are working and doing some ground game o!!
Don't be deceived! go to the streets! the momentum is not just online!! It's EVERYWHERE!!!!

SAI BUHARI!!!

Many Nigerians don't really know what good governance entails. That's why you'll find that 85% of GEJ supporters on nairaland have never been to a first-world country. It's just the ignorance working on them like a sort of steroid.
