Is Repainting Houses Against Nigerian Culture? by Nobody: 11:02pm On Jan 16, 2009
Is it true that it's culturally forbidden to repaint houses in Nigeria?

My mom told me that it was against Nigerian culture. If so, why? undecided What does it signify?

She sent me a pic of her vacation in Lagos. Most of the paints on the houses have become all faded and nasty. So we were joking and I asked her why don't they repaint their houses.
She told me that it was against the culture. I'm not sur eif she was still joking or what not.

So, if so, why?

Don't be such an unrepentant ignoramus. You are now trespassing in "girl22" territory.
Your mother is feeding you the shits.

If you cannot answer the thread, I'd ask you to step off.
Am not sure what shit you've been feeding on, but am sure you wouldn't want your mother to be disrespected, so respect others' mother.

Now, you must not have read the topic before you jumped, but the poster implied that she was unsure of the statement. That's why she said"If so, why?". Now if you think the statement was false, the logical thing you should have done is say"No, the statement is wrong".
But then, being logical is not your forte, I see.

Sounds like something an akata would ask me that would force me to cringe and slapoffer a witty response.

If you are in the least bit educated you would employ and make use of your thinking faculty.

Damn it!

Re: Is Repainting Houses Against Nigerian Culture? by Nobody: 3:42am On Jan 19, 2009
tpia:

repainting houses has nothing to do with culture. A lot of Nigerians simply dont repaint their houses because they dont consider it a priority to do so. Low maintenance "culture".
Well they need to start reconsidering it as a priority because it does not make the environment look clean

tpia:

In places like the US, residents of particular neighborhoods form associations to protect their property values. Thus anyone not conforming to the set standards for that residential area, can be reported, sued and forced to bring their homes up to standard. Or forced to move elsewhere. Whites who live in good neighborhoods can be very strict about that kind of thing when they want to.

Thats also one of the functions of zoning and town planning. People arent supposed to just build anyhow anywhere they like.

Such things tend to be more strictly enforced abroad since they have more experience with it. Even trailer parks have their own locations and designated areas. They're not just thrown slapdab in the middle of town.

True that wink
I think Nigeria should prohibit hanging clothes outside to dry.
Maybe a lil washer and dryer here, but drying outside makes the place look so dirty embarassed

Nigeria, we have a lot of dressing up to do.

Maintenance culture in goverment parastatals and establishment is Zero. No Taboo in repainting houses. My house is repainted every 2 years. Those that leave their houses with crappy paint of 9 years ago or more probably could not afford the cost of repainting. To cap it all, Mumsy was only pulling your legs

There are more important issues for the government to deal with.

True that, but the scenery of the country is also important to the tourist.
Govt. gets money from tourist visits, you know.
