Laptop FREEZING Few Minutes After Startup! by Nobody: 9:38am On Mar 18, 2015
For almost 2 weeks now, when I start my windows 8 laptop,it freezes about 1 minute after booting and I can't do anything except move the cursor and activate/deactivate the cap locks button.

But when I start in safe mode of which most of the functions of the laptop are disabled it goes smoothly.

I even tried uninstalling recent and unnecessary programs and cleaned the PC with both an Anti malware and Anti spyware but the problem remains...

I have also noticed that when I start normally and I manage to get to Task Manager, my Hard disk usage shoots to 100% usage even when I am not carrying out any tasks...

When I stopped any programs I suspect in the startup of the task manager, the issue still remains.

I can't do anything on my Laptop EXCEPT when on Safe mode.

What could be the real problem?

Clean the cooling fan. If you can't do it yourself, you can take it for cleaning. I believe since after clearing the apps using the Ram, that might do something. As for running smoothly on safe mode, run the computer normally and on your home screen, go to task manager by clicking Alt + Ctrl + Delete key, on the task manager menu, click processes and down below, there is an administrator image saying show all computer processes there you can know which app is causing this problem.

touch the fan outlet, is it hotter than it used to be? if so clean your fan. And add heat sink coolant on the processor.

go to task manager, click on processes, then click on cpu to arrange the processes according the amount of cpu they are using up. from so doing you will know the application/process that is hanging the system. you can kill the process (if killing it is not harmful).

I recommend to install ccleaner, to help clean up junks on your system. you can also disable some programs from running on start-up using ccleaner. when too many programs are enabled to run on start-up, it tends to hang the system once you start your system.

Avoid placing ur lappy on the bed while in serious usage, the bed spread blocks the air-vents and it over heats. Systems hang when it is over heated.

Thank you tksergio for your helpful suggestions, never knew I could arrange processes in Task Manager and disable startup programs with Ccleaner.

ofcourse you can, open ccleaner. click on tools, then go to start-up. select the programs u dont want to run automatically on start up, then disable them.. As for arranging processes in ascending or descending order according to their cpu usage. from task manager, click on processes and click on cpu tab once or twice for descending or ascending order, then kill the process that is consuming the most cpu.

try it out and see whether it solves ur problem. If it continues, you might consider backing up your files and data, and reinstalling the system.

you can try do a system clean up and wipe shadow copy.note that wiping shadow copy will wipe all restore points, so wonlt advice you to wipe it if you since you would need the restore points for restoring back to normal state before an error occured.but since you said the system works normal when in safe mode, that means that means its a software problem.try clean the system and also check number of start up running apps
