Governor Rotimi Amaechi reacts to deputy governor's defection
"The Rivers State Governor Rt. Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has only this evening received the news of the resignation of his Deputy Governor Engr Tele Ikuru from the All Progressives Congress,”
Whilst the news remains unofficial at this time as the Deputy Governor is yet to notify His Excellency the Governor of this move, Governor Amaechi however wishes Engr Ikuru all the best in his future political endeavours.
He however wishes to note that the reasons adduced by Engr Ikuru are shocking as Deputy Governor lkuru has consistently been the one driving political activities in his local government area of Andoni and has been the second in command driving politics and governance in Rivers state.
On a personal note, Governor Amaechi has accorded Engr Ikuru all the privileges and respect due the office of the Deputy Governor and has treated him with love as a friend brother.
Though the Governor had hoped that the numerous rumors of Engr Ikuru’s double-faced membership of the APC and open romance with the PDP were not true, he however appreciates the fact that every individual has a right to pursue his political dreams, as he deems most appropriate. It is however regrettable that Engr Ikuru has chosen the dishonourable path of barefaced lies and name-calling rather than the more honourable path of simply retracing his steps to where he has always been.” - Chief Press Secretary to Governor Chibuike Amaechi

However it was dancing, singing and celebration all throu this evening in RSGH as many party faithful came into celebrate Amaechi's foresight.
For the past few months Amaechi had instructed that his deputy Engr. Tele Ikuru and Commissioner Charles Gogo be sidelined coz they were double edged swords however a lot of people felt uneasy about the instruction.
In the last reshuffling of LGA CTC members all Tele Ikuru's nominees were dropped in Andoni (His LGA) so as to pave way for his final exist today.

Question: Why was Tele left till this time some of u may ask?

Tele has no political relevance. He was used by the Amaechi camp to achieve judicial relevance.

In 2007 after the supreme court judgement that threw Omehia out of office. Tele his deputy also left the government however Amaechi insisted that he continues as his deputy so as not to incur more litigation from that case.
Wike who was Chief of Staff tried in vain to convince Amaechi to impeach Tele and have him replaced by Dakuku Peterside.

In 2011 Tele asked Amaechi to allow him contest for Reps but Amaechi told him that Dakuku had been pencilled for that Rep seat and he should continue as Deputy. Wike did not like the arrangement but tagged along all the same.

Then Omehia heads to court again insisting that Amaechi's tenure was suppose to end in 25th Oct 2011 not 29th May 2011. However the Supreme court threw out the case coz in their reasoning Tele Ikuru the deputy was sworn in on 29th May 2007 and his (their) tenure ended in 29th May 2011 as INEC cannot conduct elections for the office of the Deputy while waiting for the tenure of the Governor to expire.

Tele had outlived his usefulness and won't be missed.

Name who and who defected along with him?

In the next few hours two of his Commissioner nominees and former CTC members will join him but unfortunately they all have no political value.

As u can see we are dancing.

Congratulate both of them.

Their marriage of convenience has finally been dissolved..

Amaechi needed Tele to ward off the mirage of court cases over his tenure,
Tele needed Amaechi to be politically relevant.

However when the chips are down Tele will remember those who made life difficult for him as Deputy Gov., tried to get him impeached, resisted his renomination as Deputy Gov. and humiliated him in front of subordinates and that person isn't Amaechi but Wike as Chief of Staff.

We Ijaws have no sinister motive towards Wike; neither are we planning to back stab or betray him. All you see is known as politics, and nothing more. We are not traitors!

Funny enough I don't consider him a back stabber, he is the nephew of PDP Deputy National Chairman Prince Uche Secondus who nominated him in 2007 to be Deputy Governor and the way Amaechi camp excluded him in all political activities left him no other choice.

On the next Exco meeting Amaechi will embrace him coz that #theAmaechiIKnow

I was really surprise that he was re norminated in 2011 since he was Celestine Omehia deputy governor. He seems to be a loyal deputy governor because he work peacefully with both Ameachi and Omehia which is really weird since both ameachi and omehia are political enemies. Anyway the office of the deputy governor is a ceremonial position in Nigeria. Some commissioners in some states has more influence than most deputy governors. Its very rear to see a deputy governor take over from a governor in Nigeria.

That's what I said earlier, Amaechi needed Tele Ikuru as his Deputy coz of the legal implications. If Amaechi had changed his Deputy during the 2011 elections perhaps the Supreme Court would have nullified his election but for the fact that Tele was sworn in on May 29th 2007 and re-sworn in on May 29th 2011 may a mess of Omehia's case in court.
