THis is just FYI so you may know and devise means of exposing these fraud. The machinery and systems used for rigging have not changed that much, do not expect a miracle to happen with the introduction of PVCs because these rigging machinery are still going to be in place.

These are some of the highlights:

1. Party Agents: These people are believed to be party loyalists and therefore the eye of the party in every election center. However, the reality is that most times, these agents are not properly paid for the job. If this is the case, the other party will simply offer them mouth watery sums to look the other way while rigging can be effected. I have witnessed this first hand.

Another reason why party agents compromise is when they see that they are outnumbered. Imagine when a party member calls you aside to offer you some money to allow them rig, and right there in your face, you see the police and military who were deployed to protect the place are already compromised, protecting the interests of your rival party. The agent in this case has to choose between his safety and his job. I have seen a situation where a faithful party agent refused to play ball, and he was arrested and whisked away in a police car till the end of the election. His offense? he verbally spoke against unfairness at the polling center so he was charged with inciting violence and causing nuisance, he was released immediately after the election.

2. INEC officials: Most of these officials are NYSC members, how much are they paid as corpers, and how much is their pay for the INEc job? With the almost lack of patriotism and lack of sense of duty rocking most sectors in Nigeria, and in this present dispensation where bribery doesnt get punished, many of these officials may be compromised. Their compromised job will include allowing those who were not accredited to vote, while security officials try to prevent the rightfully accredited people from voting after accreditation.

3. Security Forces: Traditionally, the ruling party uses many of the security agencies in Nigeria to bully and intimidate opposition and effect rigging and outright election fraud.

4. Stuffing Ballot Boxes: This will happen again if security officials are compromised, especially in rural areas of the state. Party members will stuff ballot boxes and with the aid of security officials and INEC officials, smuggle in and replace the original ballot boxes with the stuffed ones before counting. If there is a reaonable opposition presence at the center, All they have to do is cause a little pandemonium and shoot a gun into the sky to cause a panic that will distract people while the ballot boxes are replaced. Mind you, there is no way of verifying that the actual votes came from the people who were accredited, the card reader only maintains that a certain number of people will legally vote so the party members can rig the election to fall in within this figure. Like i said, this is only possible where security forces are compromised. This method is also more predominantly used in strongholds of the parties where the opposition is weak. In this case, the dominant party will effortlessly carry out its rigging right within the premise of the election venue.

Solution:

Please go to the election venue with your phone and video camera. Maintain a safe distance and record any suspicious activity going on within your polling unit.

Card readers are the game changers.

Will you stuff ballot box without having been accredited?

Whoever bribes election officials is wasting time and money.

Read the post very well to understand how you can vote without being accredited. You didnt read it well:

"As long as officials and security operatives are compromised, after voting, they can smuggle in fake ballot box to replace the original one. As long as you rig within the limits of the number of people accredited to vote, you're safe. So if 500 people are accredited and the vote was initially 300 for party A and 200 for party B, you can also smuggle in a ballot box that says 450 is for party A and 50 is for party B". This will happen mostly in rural areas where voters can be easily intimidated, party agents and security can be bribed etc. Such places are many in Nigeria. So be vigilant

abeg will the card readers record the voters who voted through the incident forms?

chukwudi44:

card readers only record the number and information of people who have been accredited (legally authorized) to vote. It does not actually record if the person voted finally or not. It does not also validate the ballot papers to ensure that the thumbprint of those who were accredited are the actual ones on the ballot papers, thats in the case where a ballot box was exchanged. A ballot box can still be exchanged, as long as the number of votes inside it is not more than the number of people accredited to vote in that poll unit. The good thing about the card reader is that it minimizes electoral fraud to the barest minimum. So the only thing is to keep watchful eyes to protect your votes so that the ballot box is not exchanged to favour another party.
