So I am building this 4 bedroom bungalow and had an older family friend do the supervision since I am never around.

The foundation has been raised and now, it's time to do the filling with laterite. I am home cos I can take a few days off -- elections.

I went to the site and snapped the attached pictures. The job has been done poorly in some areas. Is it okay to go ahead with the laterite filling or correct these issues. I am concerned these could pose future issues.

Meanwhile the rods at the corner in one of the pictures should have iron rod reinforcement but it hasn't been done till now. Is this going to be a problem as I always see this done during the blinding of the foundation.

You can put the rod now and cast then get cement and call him to fill the space the second pix you attached concentrate on that area well to bind the blocks well to avoid crack

Thanks a lot bro for your advise. Will do as advised. That corner is one angle of a pentagonal room. Will get a carpenter to use wood to properly align that angle and then fill with concrete mix.

Feel better...as you make it sound better than I thought it was.

Something need to be done to that bricklayer, he is lousy... You need a better one.. Get rid of him.
The pillar should have been started from the foundation so as to have solid mat.. but you can still dig around
there and implement that. make sure things are well done and fixed before you fill with laterite sand.

Works on all the pictures you posted are very bad... Sorry to make you feel bad... but you need to know.

Not too bad as u think. I guess the worst of all those pics is the hexagon area of the building. once blocks doesnt meet at right angle, it takes a lot of attention to get it right. if you really want to correct it then that portion can be broken off set the block such that they will not bind at those obtuse angle, then introduce columns to bind them together. by that u ll achieve a better block setting I think.

If the foundation is faulty, every other thing on it is at risk....

Thank goodness you can still salvage the situation now. I will advise you monitor things closely throughout. Because aspect of the construction is important and besides you're spending money. Also, correcting errors means spending more money.
I started a two-3BR recently too. Though I have a supervising Engineer but work will only happen when I'm available - which is usually weekends. It might seems slow but I'm happy/satisfied with the steady and quality progress. Also, learning some bits in the process.

Thanks again guys for your input. Will supervise the jobs personally from now on rather than rely on others. Will get these errors fixed.

Aventure good one there and all others that has written, my observation is that the foundation is low you need one or two block round... i wonder why people do not like use Pillars for a bungalow building.

Your blocks are not good product, you can fill holes with weak concrete.
