Lent is a time set aside by the church to reconcile with God, it's a time to deny ourselves those precious things we cannot do without, it's a time to abstain from certain habits, it's a time for sober reflection, it's a time to fast and a time to remember the less privileged. In summary, it's a time to come back to God. At this particular time, many people who have gone astray or who have been far from God use this opportunity offered by the church to reconcile with God. I my humble opinion, abstaining from eating meat is not biblically originated but it's one of the points I have highlighted above "denying yourself those precious things you cannot do without"

Everyone got their beliefs and values. We "Catholics" believe that eating meat on a good friday, is like eating the flesh of christ, and inflicting more pain to him, so it's neither of that!!
So it's not biblical, but rules by men just like making Sunday the sabbath day...

It has no bearing on our spiritual lives, the massage is simple, do you accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and personal Saviour? accepting means that you must denounce your evil ways and become a new creature devoid of unholyness and sin. moreover, those who did not accept Jesus are hell bound. they need repentance.

OP.must you question everything? In this age of freedom of speech we should try and apply discretion and wisdom on how we exercise it. If eating meat today is not biblical will you institute a court action on the Mother Church? How does knowing the answer help you? Be guided!
Why wouldn't he want an answer to it? I am glad he asked because before now, I had absolutely no idea about this practice.

For some of us, if it's not biblical, I would certainly question the rationale behind it, then either do it, or not. But, I would never judge those who would.

Personally, I think Christianity shouldn't be about what the 'mother church' says, or what 'my pastor/bishop' says. Each and every one of us has access to the bible and to God. Yes, the church is very important but I don't see it as the ultimate.

I ask God questions, so who is the church?

For us Catholics, it's just another form of abstinence......in our sacrifice during Lent. Most people love eating meat so d Church encourages us to abstain n eat fish instead esp today as we commemorate n partake in d passion of our Lord Jesus Christ. So it doesn't have to be biblical....it's d motive that counts.
My humble submission

when Christians fight other Christians I wonder what you expect other religions to do or think of Christians. I wonder why protestants are so obsessed with discrediting the Catholic Faith. to each his own. if you don't understand it or like it let it be. Catholics have not cried about the catholic faith and doctrine. if you think its pagan OK. if you say Catholics worship idols OK. religion is not a one way street. by the way don't forget that the different christian faiths in existence today can be traced back to the Catholic Faith. just live and let live

The problem with christians and African's in general is that they spend so much time critizing others such that they barely have time for themselves. Most of these People here don't even know the origin of their churches. The only thing they is that Catholics do this or that which is not in the bible.

The world wud be a great palce if we consentrate on our relationship with God and stop critizing other people when what they do is not harmful to u in any way.
HAPPY GOODFRIDAY
PROUDLY CATHOLIC.

To me, it is not just superstitious but may be ungodly to make that a doctrine...where can we find that in the bible?
that is purely the doctrine of men.

Thank you jare. We humans just come up with doctrines that suit us and want everyone to tow along. Nowhere in the Bible does it condemn eating meat on good frieday. Infact, I doubt if Good Friday was even mentioned in the Bible.
