President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF),
Amaju Pinnick, restated last night that the
decision to hire Stephen Keshi for another term as
Super Eagles head coach remained on track
despite speculations that the deal might be
jettisoned because his backers have lost out in the country’s power game.
The new two-year contract was expected to be
signed between Keshi and the federation shortly
after Nigeria’s international friendly with Uganda
but had to be shelved because chiefs at the Glass
House were out of Abuja for the Presidential Elections in their respective states.
A football-only online website had even gone
ahead to report yesterday that the outcome of the
election which opposition candidate,
Muhammadu Buhari, won was going to be the
major determinant of whether Keshi was going to return to the post.
Most top All Progressives Congress (APC)
members who are followers of events at the Glass
House have never hidden their annoyance with
attempts to bring back Keshi to the Eagles job
after failing to qualify Nigeria for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations hosted by Equatorial Guinea early
this year. They insisted that Keshi should be given
same treatment handed out to Samson Siasia
when he similarly failed in 2011. But sources close to the NFF president confided in
THISDAY last night that Keshi’s contract will be
signed once he agrees to the terms of the
contract.
“There is no truth in the speculations that Keshi’s
contract will no longer be signed because President Goodluck Jonathan lost his bid to return
for a second term. Once Keshi accepts the terms of
his contract, we are going to sign the contract
immediately after the Easter break,” revealed the
top football official last night.
Last Wednesday, Pinnick similarly dismissed speculations that the deal Keshi called ‘Slave
Contract’ was off the table.
Pinnick told reporters in Abuja that Keshi’s
contract has been approved by the NFF board.
“I can confirm that to Nigerians that the board has
approved the contract. All that is left now is for him to sign it. As we speak Keshi has not put pen
to paper,” revealed Pinnick to the reporters
covering the Glass House.
The Big Boss, as Keshi is called, has been in
charge of the Super Eagles since 2011 but despite
winning the AFCON in 2013 calls have been strident for his contract not to be renewed. Many Nigerians want him out due to the poor
results as of late.
Keshi reportedly resigned from his post two times
in the past and at one point he was sacked by the
NFF board only to be reinstated weeks later due
to intervention from top officials in the Jonathan administration.

Sighs, I am trying to figure out exactly what Keshi has done to get another two year contract. This does not make sense to me. You do not need a masters degree to realize this guy has taken Nigeria as far as he can. He is NOT GOOD ENOUGH.

not good for Nigerian football.I think the best option is for us to get a foreign coach.am sick and tired of the local coaches who I think are not good technically except for a few.
