ASABA—WIFE of the controversial politician, Senator Arthur Nzeribe, Mrs. Tonia Nzeribe and her company, Odazee Nigeria Limited which was handling the construction of the high court building complex in Asaba before its collapse on September 2, 2007, has been blacklisted and banned alongside the company from handling any of the state government's projects.

Consequently, the said high court building contract worth N58.4 million awarded to her company, Odazee Nigeria Limited in 1999 during former Governor James Ibori’s administration has been revoked and all outstanding payments due her and the company declared forfeited to the state government.

The Commissioner in charge of Projects Monitoring in the state, Chief Ejaife Odebala, stated this in Asaba, yesterday, while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the state Executive Council (exco) meeting held on Sunday.

Odebala told journalists that in addition, the blacklisted contractor will be prosecuted by the state Ministry of Justice for her actions that led to the collapse of the building.

Also, the Director of Public Building in the Delta State Ministry of Housing, Mr. Henry Aghwadoma, an Architect by profession including six other top ministry officials in Works and Housing have been downgraded.

Others are Architect E.C. Madumezia, Arc. C.I. Njoagwani, Arch. E.I. Nmor, Engr. E.E. Ugbomah, Engr.E.O. Olloh and Mr. E.O. Evujohwo-Omashola over their respective roles in the collapse of the building.

Odebala also said that the exco took a decision that the collapsed building be demolished and a new structure be provided for.

The state Chief Judge, Justice Rosaline Bozimo, had told the Inter-Ministerial Committee that probed the collapsed complex that the best thing to do in the circumstance was to pull it down entirely, saying “we are scared”.

The CJ while testifying through the Chief Registrar, Mrs. Helen Akpotohwo, said: “I am here on the instruction of the Chief Judge, it is the Chief Judge’s contention that the building be brought down completely, we are scared”.

Under cross-examination she denied that the state judiciary ever gave approval for purported extension from the original one-floor building contrary to the contractor’s claim. that the end user, which is the judiciary gave their consent to the addition. But the CJ told the panel “I don’’t think we requested for additional floor we did not request for it”, she stated.
