Nigerian writers from across the country and beyond have submitted a total of one hundred and nine (109) entries for The 2015 Nigeria Prize for Literature, sponsored by the Nigeria LNG Limited. The Focus this year is on Children’s Literature.

Considered Africa’s most prestigious literary award because of its uncompromising insistence on excellence and the $100,000 cash prize, the NLNG sponsored initiative rotates yearly among four literary categories of prose fiction, poetry, drama and children’s literature.

Authors competing for the award typically send in their working which are assessed by a panel of judges, comprising eminent literary scholars, with their decisions and reviews overseen by an advisory committee of equally distinguished academics.

On the panel of judges for this year’s edition are Professor Uwemedimo Enobong Iwoketok of the University of Jos, who will be chairperson, Professor Charles Bodunde of the University of Ilorin, and the University of Maiduguri’s Dr. Razinat Mohammed.

Members of the Advisory Board for the Prize are Professor Emeritus, Ayo Banjo, Professor Ben Elugbe and Professor Jerry Agada.

Kimberly Reynolds, a Professor of Children’s Literature at Newcastle University in the United Kingdom, and past President of the International Research Society for Children’s Literature, is this year’s International Consultant to the Advisory Board.

Submissions are examined and shortlisted based on a number of considerations including editorial excellence, creativity and story plot, with the aim of selecting a final winner who will then be publicly announced in October each year, to coincide with the date NLNG shipped its first liquefied natural gas cargo.

“We have received a hundred and nine books as submissions by Nigerian authors to compete for this year’s prize in children’s literature. I can only wish all the authors vying for the honour, every success and the best outcome possible in the exercise,” said Kudo Eresia-Eke, NLNG’s General Manager, External Relations.

And this statement has a relationship with this thread how? Even Chimamanda Adichie wouldn't say no to a 100k dollars prize.

last I checked, we were talking about 109 hungry authors. $100k is roughly #12million. That's no big money, is it?

With dollar-naira rate at the moment, you should check your conversion Sir.

Was it mentioned in the article they were to share the money? How many authors even make that much in Nigeria? And I'm quite sure the money would be shared amongst a selected and specific number of winners. So...?

Don't believe I've seen a writer of children's literature in this section.

wow, that's quite a lot.

NLNG only accepts published books (I think). I wonder why none of such books or authors are rarely featured on Nairaland?
