Abacha granted the license but when did the companies start operation? Who made sure they delivered their mandate? Who slammed them fines and strictly monitored them for compliance? Who expanded and made sure they didn't maintain a monopoly? That's what I call leadership.

Coming to your question, the privatization exercise was simply a sham. These power companies were not properly accessed, some of them do not have the financial capacity, if not for The banking regulators who Issued instructions to banks not to grant them excessive loans, they could've possibly plunged our banks to another crisis because that was their intention, they claimed they had investing partners but on a closer look, these claims were not verified before they were granted licenses, they don't even have serious service strategy. MTN recharge cards are sold on the streets through a distribution and retail network, I expect that in the electricity distribution too which would create lots of employment... so many so many issues, just a shabbily implemented project

Totally in support. Government officials just used proxies to buy for themselves fragments of PHCN all in the name of privatisation, and now one can't even get 5hours steady electricity in a day. The stuff that went on was one of the biggest frauds accomplished under the outgoing admin and must be revisited.

Privatisation was meant to enhance efficiency and service delivery, but what we are getting is a complete opposite of that.

Reversing the privatization will take Nigeria back by 5 years. Not to talk of the financial burden it will place on the "nearly empty" federal treasury.

The only Option the FG has if it wants to reverse the privatization is to buy it back at a price much more than what the companies paid for their disco..

And doing that will certainly scare other investors from participating in the next bid and erode investors confidence.

Because one thing investors hate is uncertainty..

And then, there's another point to consider, What makes you think the next bids will be better than the first?

These people complaining are merely doing so because they missed out and believe that now they are close to the government, they stand a better chance of buying one of the discos and gencos
