PUT TO DEATH! | Colossians 3: 1 (NLT)

“Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God's right hand”

Still talking about cooperating with the ongoing work of the Holy Spirit within each and every one of us (the New Creations) working to bring out the results of our salvation. Interestingly, God has done His part. We are now expected to do as God is giving individual the desire and the power to do what pleases Him. All needed is our yielding to His prompting. This, we discussed in greater details a couple of days ago - Philippians 2: 12 – 13.

We are to ‘Put to Death – Mortify – Subdue - Silence’

"So put to death or silence or mortify or subdue the sinful, earthly things lurking within you. Have nothing to do with sexual immorality, impurity, lust, and evil desires. Don't be greedy, for a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world. Because of these sins, the anger of God is coming" | Colossians 3: 5 - 6 (NLT).

It is very sad to see how many have taking the 6th verse of Colossians 3 to preach the wrath of God coming upon His Children. The writer of that passage wasn’t talking about the wrath of God coming upon God’s Children. Paul was only revealing the side of God towards the disobedient ones (the unsaved ones). God detests their lifestyles.

We are already been saved from God’s wrath through our union with Christ, being justified by Jesus’ blood. God’s wrath is only meant for the unsaved – the unbelievers; not you, the new creations. Please read Romans 5: 9, 1 Thessalonians 1: 10, 2: 16, 5: 9.

"For which things' sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience" | Colossians 3: 6 (KJV).

However, we are not expected to participate in those things any longer and to take the advantage of our freedom to indulge in sinful act (Galatians 5: 13). Why? Simply because we now have a new life; different from the old life.

"You used to do these things when your life was still part of this world. But now is the time to GET RID of anger, rage, malicious behavior, slander, and dirty language. Don't lie to each other, for you have stripped off your old sinful nature and all its wicked deeds" | Colossians 3: 7 – 9.

Distinct enough.

Dearly beloved, we are no longer in our old way of life. We are now a new creature with a new way of life. So we should always PUT TO DEATH or MORTIFY or SILENCE or SUBDUE every interest or the deeds of the flesh; cooperating with the ongoing work of the Spirit as God is giving you the desire and the power to live a clean life.

NOW, SAY | I respond to the ongoing work of the Spirit within me to live clean.
