Kenai:
Madam Due Process was really blown open in that interview. Let's not even sugarcoat it.
Watch the interview and see for yourself:

Clearly, Dr. Oby's understanding of a politician is a "member of a political party", but Mehdi was quick to point out to her that holding 2 ministerial positions, acting as adviser to the president and serving as World Bank Vice President already made her a politician.
Her shameless defence of Obasanjo's administration also exposed her as a hypocrite.

7:43

Mehdi: Sure you would agree that the root causes of Boko Haram aren't just the radical Islamist ideology but also political grievances and marginalisation. And don't you think members of the political elite like yourself should also take responsibility for neglecting them?

Oby: I have been very vocal about the failure of the political elite class which I am a part of. I mean, I'm not going to pretend like a belong to a lonely class...

Mehdi: Well, with respect to other instances where you have said you were not a politician, I'm glad you're finally accepting that today.

Oby: But no, I am not a politician.

Mehdi: Really? Then what are you?

Oby, I do not belong to a political party...

Mehdi: But you were a government minister?

Oby: Well, that's where you're wrong...

Mehdi: So you weren't a government minister?

Oby: Well, we do not practice the West's minister type of government. We practice presidential system...

Mehdi: Ministers are not politicians?

Oby: I became a politician without having to carry Party cards and dance in the village.

Mehdi.. Your definition of a politician is a person who does not belong to a party? If you were the Minister of education, If you were the minister of solid minerals, if you were the vice president of world bank, If you were an adviser to African presidents, you're not a politician?

Oby: well...

Mehdi: That's a very narrow definition.

Oby: Well... ehm... well... it depends on how brrrrrrroadly...

Oby is right in this context.Politics is different from governance, don't get it twisted.

A person who isn't enmeshed in politics does not see the need to become an apologist.
Either by association or commission, she is a politician.
While it is a rather derogatory term, I think Oby does more of politicking.

I can understand her reason for distancing herself from the word.

Despite my interest in politics, I wouldn't want to be referred to as a politician.

But then, it is what it is.
God bless for this..

I understand her situation

Even the best of brain surgeons might find it difficult separating these two heads: politics and governance.

Give this shinning woman a slack. Ngozi Iweala has repeatedly said she is not a politician and she is not interested in the kind of Nigeria's politics, even though she was in Abia and Delta States during the PDP presidential campaign to canvanssed votes for Goodluck and PDP.
This notion that Oby is against d Goodluck govt, because she was not appointed as minister is self serving. I remember reading from the media in 2011 that Goodluck reached out to this same woman and Iweala, as regards appointment as ministers, but Oby declined, this was at a time when politicians where doing all within their power to get appointment. Everybody must not be an ass licker.

The unfortunate situation in Nigeria means 99% of those commenting cannot afford to and have not watched the video/interview. The woman even commended the current GEJ administration well in the interview. About government work, she said only divine persuasion can make her work for government in future, even the coming Buhari administration.

Thank you and God bless you!

I watched the interview from beginning to end. I note where she praised GEJ's social security reforms and the audience applauded

Many who are insulting this intelligent woman did not watch the full interview. Seun Kuti who commented is still bitter that his dad got a beating by OBJ and he wants the whole world to demonise OBJ!. Seun needs to clean his brains of IGBO and know that he is not in anyway a leader of thought. He may have talents but he is living in the shadows of his father. Many with better talents from peasant homes roam the streets uncelebrated.

Nigerians do not read and are very comfortable with bandwagon mob sensationalism effect. many who comment on the PwC report have not read it! why would the woman say OBJ is corrupt when NO court / No Tribunal / Nobody has indicted him with real evidence? Only a person of low intelligence will go on international TV to call a man corrupt without evidence!

In my opinion Oby did creditably well and shone in this interview and I am proud of her!

yes , by all means Locally they are different !

Internationally they are one and the same and that is why the Interviewer could not understand the difference. He did not give Oby the chance to explain and kept hounding words into her mouth. If I were on the hot seat I would have told the interviewer to shut up!

The old man (obj) did not understand good governance despite he had been in governments for decades couple with his insincerity made him fail. I think he might not be very corrupt.

Well said. I couldn't have put it better. Nobody anywhere else in the world would go on TV to call an identified person corrupt without having first being found so by a competent court of law. It is just never done. You can call a govt corrupt, but certainly not the president. If he takes you to court, what evidence do you plead? People like Mehdi look down on and talk down on Africans. They wouldn't ask guests from the West the silly questions they ask Africans. Shame on them.

Exactly, plus it's not ethical for anyone to go about saying bad things about their former boss except maybe you're in a law court where it may be unavoidable.
